You certainly could put up a sales page with your phone number and your price. But how will people know how to find your website in the first place? Why would people choose you and your service over the thousands of competitors with similar sales pages on the Internet?

Putting up a sales page is a decent start. But I'm not sure how far it's going to get you.

You'd be far better off setting up a blog where you offer free information related to your niche. Build a relationship of trust with your readers.

When people trust you with far easier to sell to them.

You could also do some sort of crosspromotional advertising. It sounds like you do premarital background checks. When people are looking to get married they spend money on cakes, wedding photographers, wedding planners, bridal dresses, and a whole host of other things. Could you do some sort of crosspromotional marketing with them?

In today's post I wrote about why sending traffic directly to a sales page is waste of time:

Hey Nick,
I'm a private investigator and ever since I've looked into internet marketing its almost always about selling a product, which is good and I will eventually start selling a product. However, I sell services and I want to know more about selling a service online. I do pre-marital background investigations for several hundred dollars. Although you see background offers galore on the net they don't come close to providing an extensive thorough, accurate and complete background check. If government agencies, law enforcement agencies, insurance companies, mortgage companies relied on these computer database generated reports alone they would have all kinds of characters in their organization.- When marketing offline generally the method we use is ads, among other ways to generate a lead. The lead calls in and we try to sell them on the service. So my question is what would be the best process online? Do we setup a one page blog or website with our telephone number to call in for more information then sell them? Do we place the cost in the blog or website? Do we try to sell directly from the blog or website. Do we give them a choice? -Thank you for your assistance.

Traffic from any source is good traffic as long as it's targeted. And twitter is no exception.

I don't think there's any point really for using meta-tags. They were heavily abused 10 years ago and search engines have found much better ways to figure out what your site is about.

Is there any point putting keyword text on your website, anymore? such as

meta name="keywords" content="here is where you put your keywords, poodle manicures, poodle manicurist, best poodle manicurist, manicure your poodle "
meta name="description" content=” this website will teach you how to manicure your poodle's feet and teach the beginner the best way to look after your pet"

if this kind of code is still effective. What's would be the equivalent for a word press site?

I haven't actually bought or sold websites personally. Though I do how a fair amount of experience buying domains and building websites.

When you ask "How do you edit these websites" do you mean: How do you modify your content? How do you modify their theme? Or do you mean something else?

For hosting I recommend BlueHost.

Hey Nick,
Have a quick question for you but wanted to first say how much I appreciate what you are doing here at nicktraffictricks. You are all about something that most bloggers brush over, getting traffic. They all talk about getting money, which obviously has to come from traffic, and it gets kind of annoying when the nich I am trying to survive in is TOTALLY different then what they are working in. So thanks SO much for really giving us what we need to win with!!

Now for my question; Pretty sure I saw somewhere on your site an article about commenting on other peoples sites. I actually have believed in this ever since I have had my own site and it is nice to know I am right every once on a while!! But, when submitting comments I know the latest post is the most important but does that mean we should forget the archived posts? Seems like I should comment on the archived as they are probably still getting traffic, what do you do? Also, should I make it a point to leave a nice, long, helpful and relevant comment on the posts that have lots of comments or should I not wast my time as it will be buried?

Thanks for all your help Nick, your the best!
