This is a great (often overlooked) idea.

I have placed advertising in the past and it’s worth remembering to ask when the deadline for ad copy is, also the closer you get to the deadline the greater the chance of securing a discount if the space has not been sold.

That’s a good idea for getting a discount. I think Tim Ferriss talks about that in the Four Hour Work Week.

you usually get discounts for print media when you book more than one ad or you book for a longer period.
Also ad agencies get discounts.
