3 places to find reciprocal linking partners

by Nick Stewart on June 24, 2009

Introduction

Reciprocal linking has been around for a long time and is a frequently used strategy for people to get traffic to their websites. This is especially true when the website is brand-new and has no links to it.

What is reciprocal linking?

Reciprocal linking is a cooperative agreement where I will link to your site and in return you will link to my site. The idea is that if we both linked to each other sites we will both rank higher in the search engines. Read more about the importance of link building here.

Pros of reciprocal linking

One of the nice things about reciprocal linking is that you can find lots of people who were also interested in reciprocal linking.

You just need to know where to look. The second part of this post will outline 3 places to find reciprocal linking partners.

With a few hours of work you can have all whole bunch of links to you through reciprocal linking.

Cons of reciprocal linking

One of the cons reciprocal linking is that search engines have caught onto this game and they don’t value reciprocal links as much as direct or one-way links. So if you get someone to give you a one-way link without having to give them a link in return, that link will be worth more when it comes to ranking high in the search engines.

Another con is that sites with a high page rank are far less likely to want to link to you if you have a low page rank. Most of the people starting out with brand-new website have a very low page rank.

With that said, I still think reciprocal linking has its place. It’s used mostly by people trying to get a few links to their website and to get indexed in the search engines. And I’ve seen it work for numerous sites.

3 places to find reciprocal linking partners

  1. LinkMarket – Link Market is a good place to find reciprocal linking partners. There is the sign-up process and a little bit of a learning but I highly recommend it.
  2. WarriorForum Link Buying & Swapping – this is a forum where people come to exchange, buy, and sell links. You can find reciprocal links or one-way links here.
  3. Link Building Exchange – this is a relatively new forum that I just came across. One of the interesting things about this is that the sole purpose of the forum is to find people to exchange links with. And it also doesn’t have any advertisements that I can see.
Update: this site seems to be having trouble and may not be accessible temporarily

Hi Nick

Another great post.

I had avoided linking in this way as I was under the impression search engines would penalise you for it!

Another internet myth it would seem.

Regards

Sean
