My Traffic Generation Checklist

I Make Checklists

I don’t have a photographic memory.  In fact some people may say that I can be a little absent-minded at times.

So to help me to stay organized I make checklists.

Whenever I post something new  on my blog or upload a new video I have a checklist of things to do to maximize the traffic I get.

Each item on the list is a simple yes or no question.

New Blog Post Checklist

  1. Does it have a good title?
  2. Does it have good tags & categories?
  3. Does the actual post show up correctly?
  4. Does a description and link to it show up on the home page?
  5. Did I submit it to StumbleUpon?
  6. Did I submit it to Digg.com?
  7. Did I tweet a link to it to my twitter account: http://twitter.com/nickstraffic and did I use good hashtags?
  8. Did I submit it to OnlyWire.com?  (What’s OnlyWire.com?)
  9. Did I link to it from my blogspot blog?
    1. Did I submit my new blogspot post to StumbleUpon?
    2. Did I submit my new blogspot post to OnlyWire.com?
  10. Did I send a link out to my email list?

New Youtube video upload checklist

I sometimes will create a short video and place it on Youtube to drive traffic to my website.

Here is my checklist of things to do when I submit a new video (you may notice some similarities to the list above):

  1. Does it have a good title?
  2. Did I include the link to my site at the very top of the description?
  3. Does it have good tags?
  4. Does the actual video show up and play correctly?
  5. Does the link in the description work and go to the page I expect?
  6. Did I submit it to StumbleUpon?
  7. Did I submit it to Digg.com?
  8. Did I tweet a link to it to my twitter account and did I use good hashtags?
  9. Did I submit it to OnlyWire.com?
  10. Did I link to it from my blogspot blog?
    1. Did I submit my new blogspot post to StumbleUpon?
    2. Did I submit my new blogspot post to OnlyWire.com?

Can steps 5 to 10 be automated with some plugins or services?
Or is it better do it by hand to better customize and tweek for different sites?

They can be mostly automated. I recommend doing it by hand though when you’re first starting out.

Thanks Nick

One thing I really like about your site is this kind of list step-by-step approach. organization as they say is the first step to expansion…

Thanks for sharing your checklist! Most individuals will never share something like this or you have to opt-in for the list. I do have a question in the leave a comment area you have the required field, “Is that a pluggin?”

The little math question is a plugin. It’s something like num-captcha.

Hi Nick

When you use only wire are you submitting to every social networking site (as you have accounts at all of them) or just a few of the key ones?

Regards

Sean

I have accounts for 3/4 of them and it seems to work pretty well.

Just a question regarding youtube: does viewing an embedded video also add to the number of views listed on youtube?
The more popular a video is, I think, the higher it comes up in the search results in youtube

My understanding is embedded videos from YouTube also contribute to the view count.

I have literally uploaded my first set of videos to YouTube, and never really thought of pushing them like this. I guess I’ve just done the first bit and stopped.

You’re using StumbleUpon a lot here. Is there any risk of over using it?

I don’t think there’s really a risk of over using it as long as you’re publishing quality content.

If you give thumbs up to lots of things on your website and everyone else gives them a thumbs down then that is going to raise red flags with stumble upon.

Hi Nick how is hash tag important in tweeter? and by the way what is a hash tag? I’m also looking for a particular topic on squeeze page in your blog because I’ve seen that many internet marketers use this tactics

The hash tag in twitter is just any word that begins with a #. For example #seo is a hash tag. I am still trying to figure out how important they really are.

I haven’t really written much about how to correctly set up a squeeze page. I will add that to my list of things to do.

Thanks for the list. There’s a good link building strategy inside it for someone reading between the lines. :-)
