Hi Nick

I am interested to know, how to seperate keywords on the title tag, and how I get the search engine spiders to return on a regular basis.

Look forward to the book.

Regards

Sean

Good questions. Keep them coming.

Hi Nick,

Just wanted to know your views on the resource box of an article.

Could it really be THE most important part of the article?

Looking forward to the book.

Cheers,
Gordon.

Nick Stewart February 10, 2010 at 1:46 pm

The resource box is one of three important components for successful article marketing. I made a video covering:

Hi Nick,

Here’s my question.

How do I use keyword tags correctly in blog posts to get free traffic from the search engines?

Do the tag keywords need to be related to the article content or the target audience?

Thanks,

Dave

P.S. Looking forward to your new ebook product. If it’s anything like ‘Nicks Traffic Tricks’ it will be a great resource.

Hi Nick,

I do not have a remark, but a mere question that I struggle with and I am sure a lot others too.

What is the best way to build a list completely free of any expenses and without going through all the trouble promoting on giveaway events and getting no results?

Regards

Piet

Nick Stewart February 10, 2010 at 1:50 pm

You can build an e-mail list for very cheap using a few simple tools. I made a short video covering this:

Stefan December 9, 2009 at 1:49 pm

Sorry Nick but that is so “lame”. Another eBook about all this stuff you can read free in every second blog? Come on :-( I’ll bet there won’t be anything really new (this isn’t against you). Why don’t you use your spare time (and good writing skills) to create a really unique product and not another one of these “I’ve read that before” ones?

I bet there is some hidden knowledge inside you that people really want to buy like a hungry crowd would buy cheesburgers.

Okay but I don’t want just to flame :-) so here’s my question:

What to do when I just can’t overcome procrastination to use traffic tricks and generate shitloads of cash? Thats a serious question 9 of 10 “internet marketers” regularly come up with. And if you earn good cash in the net you know that thats what seperates the successfull from the 2cent a day earners.

Also good chance for cross selling :-D maybe a motivation product ;) maybe you know the motivated mind?

Okay thats all,
Stefan

Nick Stewart December 9, 2009 at 1:52 pm

Thank you for honest feedback.

Are you going to have the same information that you possibly already answered in your 84 Traffic Videos?
Same question as Sean asked,” how I get the search engine spiders to return on a regular basis. “

Nick Stewart December 9, 2009 at 3:15 pm

There may be some overlap but I hope to focus on answering common questions people have.

Nick (master of traffic):

What are the best actions to take immediately after implementing a brand new site to gain initial visitor traffic? And to get the traffic up to a useful minimum monthly total to claim that a site is a success.

Nick Stewart February 10, 2010 at 1:53 pm

I made a video covering the different things you need to do to get traffic to any website:
http://nickstraffictricks.com/2140_video-how-to-get-traffic-to-a-new-site/

Determining whether something is a success depends on a few different factors. I go into more detail in this post:

Rachel December 9, 2009 at 2:31 pm

What is the best method for viral traffic? What is the best method for long term traffic? Which traffic getting method gives you the most out of your time (article marketing, social bookmarking, directories, ppc, gest posting, etc)?

Nick Stewart February 10, 2010 at 1:56 pm

Viral traffic is one of the hardest ways to get traffic. I cover this in a little more detail here:
http://nickstraffictricks.com/2148_question-box-what-is-the-best-method-for-viral-traffic/

Long-term traffic is something that everybody really needs to focus on so I wrote a post about it a couple days ago:
http://nickstraffictricks.com/2151_question-box-what-is-the-best-method-for-long-term-traffic/

For me personally, social media and return visitors are my best sources of traffic. I do get some traffic from Google to different posts that rank well in the search engines but it seems that that traffic is frequently dwarfed by the amount of traffic I get from stumble upon.

Scott Thrall December 9, 2009 at 2:32 pm

Hey Nick,

I get it, while some enterprising person with all the time in the world could surf for this information you intend to compile some of the best into one resource. Good going, uhhhh thats pretty much what all marketing materials do isn’t it? Holy Cow who the heck thinks, at this late time in the age of marketing, anyone can come up with a totally unique attack? You will probably put a twist that fits someone so…GO FORTH.

Since this is a traffic generating course how bout something on backlinks, like an easy way to generate them.

Thanks Nick
Scott

Nick Stewart February 10, 2010 at 1:58 pm

Thanks Scott.

Did you have any specific questions about back links or how to generate them in general? Angela Edwards has a great system for getting lots of back links. It takes time but it can help you generate quite a few back links.

David December 9, 2009 at 2:38 pm

Nick,

I am looking for other advertising avenues. I do not want to become dependent upon Google Adsense and I am aware of their TOS. What other types of advertising are available and if I decide to go with that company, am I allowed to advertise other ads on the same site?

Thank you.

Nick Stewart February 10, 2010 at 2:03 pm

There are numerous alternatives to Google AdSense. There are many different affiliate networks like commission junction or clickbank. It really depends on what your particular niche is.

You should be aware that every network has their own terms of service that you will need to abide by and they are not all the same.

There is a video on my other blog which shows you how to find advertisers for your particular website:

*How do I get low priced keywords and avoid the competitors main keywords where the bidding are very high?

*Some people suggest that we need to star a campaign with some broad keywords (I mean not phrase, not exact ) in order to evaluate the right keywords that are converting and then add them to the groups in phrase and exact version, is that true?

*How do we evaluate those keywords found in google keyword tool that shows zero traffic ? since that tool is not accurate, should we remove them or simply ignore that information and add it to the campaign?

*Which tools do you recommend for keyword research? and how do we know that a lateral keyword is still relevant to our product? for example: my main keyword, but very competitive is “maintenance software”, a lateral keyword would be “car oil replacement”, since this is a type of problem found if you don’t do maintenance, it can be a related keyword, but… will my customers buy my maintenance software by typing this lateral keyword? what method do you suggest?

*Landing pages and keyword generation: is it good for adwords to insert automatically the keyword using scripts in the landing page text, title, etc?

*Is it good to have one adword group with just one keyword( three variations )?

Nick Stewart February 10, 2010 at 2:16 pm

Wow you have a lot of questions here! I’ll do my best to answer them.

*How do I get low priced keywords and avoid the competitors main keywords where the bidding are very high?

You typically need to find a very specific keyword phrases. For example there’s a lot of competition for the keyword “dogs” and I suspect that there is a lot less competition for something specific like “dogs that snore at night”

So look for long tail keyword phrases.

*Some people suggest that we need to star a campaign with some broad keywords (I mean not phrase, not exact ) in order to evaluate the right keywords that are converting and then add them to the groups in phrase and exact version, is that true?

I have been out of the AdWords game for some time now so I don’t really know.

*How do we evaluate those keywords found in google keyword tool that shows zero traffic ? since that tool is not accurate, should we remove them or simply ignore that information and add it to the campaign?

This is a tough question. I think in some cases there is some traffic but it is so low or inconsistent that it shows up as zero. In other cases it traffic may have been really high but now the it has dropped to nearly 0. An example of this might be “Harry Potter book 7″ which received a ton of traffic when the book was first released. Now that the book is been out for some time I suspect the traffic has dropped off substantially.

If you’re looking to add them to an AdWords campaign you have little to lose by adding them. If they truly get no traffic then you won’t be charged anything because you won’t get any clicks. Give it a try and let us know what happens.

I highly recommend the Google keyword tool. As for your question about lateral keywords, you have to know your market. You must know what problems people are trying to solve and which keywords have nothing to do with your market.

When you say “maintenance software” you mean software that helps you maintain your computer? Or do you mean software that helps you do car maintenance? I am not clear on this.

*Landing pages and keyword generation: is it good for adwords to insert automatically the keyword using scripts in the landing page text, title, etc?

Some people have done this with success but I have never tried it. Rather I would focus on your determining the needs of your people and finding the few keywords that exactly pinpoint this need. I am guessing that if you laser targeted keywords will make you far more money than many general keywords.

*Is it good to have one adword group with just one keyword( three variations )?

I’m not sure about this. From what I’ve read it’s best to have an ad group with a small set of very specific and similar keywords. But don’t take my advice. Instead try it for yourself.

A good new ebook would be:

“Learn to do professional keyword research, be a service provider”

“Keyword research made easy!”

Thanks for the titles.

Jeff Sargent December 9, 2009 at 3:00 pm

Hey Nick,

How do you use the RSS feed to your blog to gain more traffic. I keep hearing about this but not real sure how to go about it. I know it’s about submitting your RSS feed to RSS feed directories but I wish you could go into greater detail how the whole process works.

RSS feeds is a subject I’ve kind of neglected which I know is not in my best interest but it just haven’t been at the top of my priority list.

Later,
Jeff Sargent

Nick Stewart February 10, 2010 at 2:24 pm

There are a couple different ways to get traffic with RSS.

The first is to use a platform for your website that creates an RSS feed for you. If you use blogger or WordPress or any other blogging engine this is already done automatically. You also want to make sure that people can see a link to your RSS on every page of your website. If people don’t see a link they won’t click on it and you will never have any subscribers.

Once you have subscribers you want to make sure that you post new and interesting stuff on a regular basis to maintain your subscribership. You also want to use social networks to drive traffic which will help increase the number of subscribers you have.

This is the approach that I am taking for my blog.

There are some other things you can do like submitting your RSS feed to RSS feed directories. I haven’t done much of this but I did write about it in a previous post:
http://nickstraffictricks.com/981_submit-your-rss-feeds-to-rss-directories/

Hi Nick,

1.Is it advisable to join websites that provide free ready-made affiliate landing pages including Click-Bank popular niches where you pay only for the hosting and choose your own domain name ? You are also provided with video tutorials and general advice on how to promote your niches. And you can ask the host to build other niche landing pages of your choice.

2. How good are Free Press Release websites as traffic tools and if good how does one maximize them or optimize them?

3. Is Squidoo one of the best tools to increase traffic to ones page? Is it a good page rank improver?

Nick Stewart February 12, 2010 at 1:43 pm

1 – These types of programs work for some people but not for most. If you do the same thing everyone else is doing you’re not going to make any money. So I suggest taking on these programs and figuring out some way to add value that no one else is.

2 – Working with press releases is something I have not really done very much of to be honest. But I will add that to my “to do” list right now.

3 – Squidoo has kind of fallen off the radar it seems. It may be a page rank improver but I am not sure if it’s worth your time. You may be better off just adding content to your blog or website.

How do I make use out of misspelt keywords on google. When doing research, it is possible to come across keywords that closely match your search but they are misspelt or will have a comma, apostrophe or full etc in the wrong and as a word are meaningless, but in terms of searches, there can quite a significant amount. Now how does one embed those words onto a page.

Nick Stewart February 12, 2010 at 1:49 pm

When my videos on keyword research outlines how to find misspelled words:
http://nickstraffictricks.com/videos_free/

Once you find a common misspelled word that has a lot of searches you can embed that in your webpage.

Hi,
I think I understand how to use keywords in my articles to drive traffic, but I’m unclear as to how I should monitor their effectiveness.

Using different keywords in different articles might be helpful, but thats not really comparing like with like, and any noted outcomes could easily be misinterpreted.

Any tips would be most helpful.
Thanks

Nick Stewart February 12, 2010 at 1:53 pm

Good question. I think maybe we should back up a little bit and look at why you want to get traffic. Are you trying to sell a product? If you are selling something then you should traffic which keywords give you the best conversion on your product. Once you know which keywords convert the best and you can look at which articles send you the most traffic for these keywords.

Another thing you can do is write a couple articles on keyword one and see how much traffic it gets. Compare this with the amount of traffic you get from the same number of articles for keyword two.

Jaye Marno December 9, 2009 at 5:17 pm

Hi Nick,

How can I interpret and use the numbers of visits to my website(s) per month to use my resources more efficiently?

Thanks,

Jaye

Nick Stewart February 12, 2010 at 2:15 pm

This goes back to goals. Why do you want traffic? What specific action you want them to take? Is it to join your newsletter or click on ads or buy something?

When looking at my website’s statistics I try to figure out which pages receive the most traffic. It’s usually a handful of pages that receive more traffic than all the other pages put together.

Spencer December 9, 2009 at 5:23 pm

I know you can submit your site to RSS aggregators. Is it advisable to submit the inner pages of your site or just the main page? I have a RSS software to my site but when I try to submit the inner pages I get an error, “Already submitted”.

Thanks

Nick Stewart February 12, 2010 at 2:16 pm

I don’t see much point in submitting your inner pages to RSS aggregators. I would instead focus time on improving your blog or website so that you get more return visitors.

Alex @ Football Party Supplies December 9, 2009 at 5:36 pm

Hi Nick:

2 questions, I got banned from using Adsense for no good reason and lost the appeal (shocking). You can not fight the 800 pound gorilla. What is the best alternative to Adsense that tries to match the ads to the content.

Why are some backlinks more effective than others? For example, I have been using Angelas backlinks for a couple of months now, all high PR sites, yet none have shown up. If I comment on a PR3 site that is relevant to my site and uses top commenter and/or keyword luv, I get all kinds of backlinks that helped my ranking for a particular site. I don’t understand what works and what doesn’t being new to backlinking.

Nick Stewart February 16, 2010 at 1:57 pm

There are many alternatives to Google AdSense but it really depends on what your niche is. Without knowing your niche I can’t really make a suggestion.

With that said, there is a short video I posted on my other blog about how to monetize websites:
http://www.nicksinternetmarketing.com/48_video-how-to-quickly-monetize-your-blog/

The main problem I have had with Angela’s back links is that it takes Google a long time to find those pages that link to my website. In some cases Google never find them at all.

Wes December 9, 2009 at 5:51 pm

Hi Nick,
Now with Google using customizations in our searches, relying on SEO to send free traffic looks
tougher if the user opts not to turn it off, how can we get round this ?

By the way, thanks for all the traffic tips!

Regards,
Wes

Nick Stewart February 16, 2010 at 2:00 pm

Search engine optimization is getting more and more competitive. A good alternative to the whole search engine optimization game is to build a community of people that look to you for answers.

I wrote a very long post about this on my other blog:
http://www.nicksinternetmarketing.com/111_how-to-make-money-online-a-simple-business-model/

Michael December 9, 2009 at 6:12 pm

Thanks very much for doing this Nick. Excellent and honest information is always useful.

Backlinks are a confusing subject. How to know how many are necessary? What types are best — out of all the latest schemes we read? Which ones LAST? Which give only a very temporary boost in ranking? How about social bookmarking?

Thanks again — cheers,
Michael

Nick Stewart February 16, 2010 at 2:03 pm

Building back links is a bit of a game and can be very time-consuming. I’m getting to the point where I don’t think back links really matter for me because they take so much time and the tactics are always changing.

Instead I recommend focusing on building fabulous content and then using social bookmarking to spread the word. I think this is the best way to go. I cover this in some depth in a different post:
http://www.nicksinternetmarketing.com/111_how-to-make-money-online-a-simple-business-model/

Darren December 9, 2009 at 6:53 pm

Hello Nick

What about how to create capture pages so when we get all this traffic it dosent go to waste and also were do you great all those great looking web graphics and good photos to put on your blog etc ( god free ones out there )

Nick Stewart February 16, 2010 at 2:06 pm

When creating a capture page you need to identify what the person’s needs are and cater to them. I find that simple capture pages are the best in the least likely to confuse or distract people. Obviously you should not have any links on the page that could lead the visitor somewhere else.

Also you want to make sure that you get targeted traffic to that page.

As for the graphics, most of them are free on the Internet. There is a great post that details how to find images online that are free to use:
http://www.skelliewag.org/a-complete-guide-to-finding-and-using-incredible-flickr-images-162.htm

Paul Harris December 9, 2009 at 7:13 pm

Hi Nick

The biggest question i am now being asked is how people can generate more traffic to their site.

Well hopefully with the true efforts you are putting forward it can help the likes of me pass on the right advise

Regards

Paul Harris

Nick Stewart February 16, 2010 at 2:09 pm

How to generate traffic is a very broad topic and so it’s difficult to give you a specific answer. But I would recommend building a community where you seek to help people and answer their questions. Give people a reason to come back to your website and you will never have to worry about your ranking in Google.

Art Beierle December 9, 2009 at 7:20 pm

Nick,

What is the best way to use Facebook fan pages to generate traffic for home based business opportunities?

Art

Nick Stewart February 16, 2010 at 2:11 pm

I have not used Facebook fan pages yet to build traffic but it is on my to do list. My first thought though is to give people what they want. If people are looking for home business opportunities then give them legitimate and valuable information about this. Maybe you could review some different opportunities and give your readers an inside look.

If your sole purpose is to advertise you’ll probably fail.

Paul Hoff December 9, 2009 at 7:52 pm

Crickey Nick you’ve got big boots to fill if you’re doing another traffic ebook, as N-T-T was certainly one of the best, if not the best ebook on traffic generation i’ve read. Quality information right through, a rare find these days i’m sure you’ll agree, as there’s a lot of dross out there!

My question is: Leaving aside PPC, what is the quickest easiest way to drive traffic to your site? I work all day in my offline business, and have a few hours to spare at night (i’ve a young family and an ill wife) so after creating wordpress websites, filling with content pages and posts, installing all the SEO plugins etc…. i don’t have much time for anything else, though my wife may be able to do something throughout the day, but she’s not really interested in IM so it wouldn’t want to be too taxing?

Hope you’re well Nick, keep up the good work!

Kind regards, Paul.

Nick Stewart February 16, 2010 at 2:14 pm

Thank you Paul.

The easiest and fastest way to drive traffic is to start with remarkable content and then use social bookmarking and social media to spread the word. In some cases social media can drive traffic faster than pay per click. It can be truly amazing.

Matt December 9, 2009 at 8:46 pm

Nick,

I’m in a similar situation to Paul Hoff and am in the process of making my site convert better – i love new traffic generation methods because without traffic where would we all be?

I’m rubbish at Keyword generation so a real good in-depth look at this subject would be great sir.

sahan December 9, 2009 at 10:04 pm

Nick,

I am going to sell Indian clothes in my new website which I have nearly finish creating.
I’m not sure the best way to promote an e-commerce site.
Is promoting e-commerce site similar strategy to information site?
How many products do I start of with?
Is it best to have one product per page or many related product per page?
Thanks,
sahan

Nick Stewart February 16, 2010 at 2:22 pm

The best way that I can think of is to find people that are interested in buying your clothing and target them. If the people that would buy your clothes are new mothers then I would find forums online when you mothers congregate. So start by identifying your target audience and then figure out where you can find them in large concentrations. Promoting an e-commerce site is similar to an information site.

I would also recommend putting one product per page.

I wrote a post about building a business online that you may be interested in:

Jim Reilly December 9, 2009 at 10:15 pm

I’d like to see something on newsletter marketing, I have Jeff Walker and Frank Kern’s stuff, but I’d like to see more innovative ways to grow a list organically, possibly something even on co-registration.

Most of the material out there focuses on increasing traffic to a site or blog, obviously this can be used to build a list but what about managing it and keeping it fresh? How often should I email my list? How often should I pitch an affiliate product? Nothing I have done in internet marketing has worked as well as maintaining lists in different niches and yet there is so little material out there on how to improve it and maximize profit.

I doubt I’d buy another SEO traffic generating ebook, but a course on list generation and monetization, and email copywriting skills, I’d pay top dollar.

Nick Stewart February 16, 2010 at 2:27 pm

I wrote a post called: 12 Steps To Setup An Email Newsletter, Get Traffic, And Make Money:
http://www.nicksinternetmarketing.com/61_12-steps-to-setup-an-email-newsletter-get-traffic-and-make-money/

It might be a little elementary for you but it might help.

In a nutshell best way to maximize profit is to first build a relationship with your readers. Invite them to ask questions and do your best to answer them.

When you’re looking to advertise, choose things that will help them solve problems they have.

I tried e-mail my list a couple times a week and tell them of some new blog post that’s informative and helpful to them. I focus my advertising on my blog. Perhaps I should try doing more advertising within my e-mails.

Dave December 9, 2009 at 10:47 pm

Hi Nick,

What are the best traffic generating WordPress plugins?

Thanks,

Dave

Nick Stewart February 16, 2010 at 2:29 pm

I don’t know if any plug-ins that generate traffic directly. But there are several I can help you with search engine optimization and social media. If you get a reasonable amount of traffic I would also recommend WP super cache. It will help your pages load faster.

If you use WordPress there is a simple plug-in that puts a “ReTweet This” button on every blog post. It allows visitors to retweet your post with a click of button. It also displays how many people have tweeted about it.

It’s called the Tweetcount Plugin and you can download it here for free:

Jackie December 9, 2009 at 11:40 pm

Nick,
I have read tons of stuff on getting traffic and have practiced a bunch of it. I use Micro Niche Finder for keyword research and practice pretty good onsite SEO. Even though I get some traffic and some halfway decent clickthru rates, I still feel that there is something that I could do better, because I never see the huges amounts of traffic that all the sales letters promise.

So, I think what I would like to see is for you to take a new site and document all the steps that you go through to get a lot of traffic flowing to that site (excluding a mailout to your list). I do like PDFs more than videos. With a PDF you can make notes, find and re-read something a whole lot faster and I don’t have to be tied to the computer to read. Plus, I can read faster than videos can talk. And you can skip things that you already know a lot about.

Oh well, these are just my thoughts. Hope they help.

Jackie

Nick Stewart February 20, 2010 at 5:58 pm

Thank you for the feedback. Some people seem to like videos more and others like PDF’s. It’s good to learn what your audience prefers.

I have thought about documenting all the steps to build a site and start getting traffic but the trouble I’m running into is that different niches require different things. I have done something like this in the past and you can read about it here:
http://www.nicksinternetmarketing.com/71_how-2-hours-of-work-makes-me-100-a-month/

John December 10, 2009 at 12:14 am

How often should website content pages, that have been specifically set up for individual keywords, get updated?

For articles – is it best to create a large number – or just have a few with the best article sites and then update them regularly?

Are one way back links becoming less important ? Rather, is google giving more weight to websites with lots of fresh and relevant content?

Nick Stewart February 20, 2010 at 6:02 pm

I don’t think you need to worry about updating specific pages as long as they offer valuable content to your readers.

For articles, I would start with a few high-quality articles and submit them to the top two or three articles sites. See how much traffic you get from them.

I have a link the article about article marketing here:
http://nickstraffictricks.com/1132_advanced-article-marketing/

Back links are becoming less relevant as Google is able to find better ways to determine which websites give better content. With that said, it will be a while before back links stop mattering.

Leslie December 10, 2009 at 1:12 am

My question is:

If you leave a comment on a no follow blog and it doesn’t have the Google love or whatever they call it…

Doesn’t that link still have power?

It seems to me that the link would still be good, but not on a search engine level. The fact that the customer makes the purchase or signs up would have more weight in the long run than a stupid search engine that pays nothing.

My customers pay my paycheck, not the search engines…

Is this a valid point or is it a bunch of bull?

What’s you take on it?

Thanks,

Leslie

Nick Stewart February 20, 2010 at 6:04 pm

It’s certainly a valid point. Many people get traffic simply by leaving liable comments on other peoples’ blogs. Visitors these comments and click the link back to your website.

Mel December 10, 2009 at 1:34 am

Hi Nick,

I’m on the verge of creating my first website, so,
my question is of a more elementary nature.

As with 99.99% of all beginners I don’t have the
bucks for a big launch (or any kind of a launch
for that matter). I would like to see Jackies idea
in action-the step by step implementation of a new
site. I also am a big fan of PDF’s, easy to transport,
read wherever you are, and make notes.

So, in addition to article writing, what are some
other economical(cheap) ways to try to attract
attention.

Thanks for your time.

Mel

Nick Stewart February 20, 2010 at 6:07 pm

Luckily you don’t have to shell out a ton of money to get started. In fact I don’t think you need a huge launch.

Rather, you need to start by giving value to your readers. Figure out what they want and give it to them. I think this is a better use of your time than article marketing.

Once you have great content and start to build a community then you can leverage social media and have your message spread.

I wrote a long post about this here:

MDCNET December 10, 2009 at 1:39 am

Hello Nick,

As a newb I am suffering from abit of information overload as I have read alot of your blog posts and some of your information products, as well as many other blogs and info products. I have set up my first blog http://www.yourdirtylittlesecrets.com (Its a “Tell your Secrets Here, Gossip, Rumors, Conspiracy theory type of blog) and I am wondering what types of traffic generation tips you would give me for this type of site. It’s a little different than alot of other monetized niche blog sites that I have read about creating.

My goal is to learn to set up various sites and blogs to help earn some additional income to help support my family and I would like to knwo what methods you would recommend to drive traffic to my site listed above (www.yourdirtylittlesecrets.com) and for any other blogs that I will be creating.

Thanks

Michael

Nick Stewart February 20, 2010 at 6:12 pm

It’s good to you took action and set up a blog and got started. You can read all the advice you want but there is no substitute for taking action and learning as you go.

You should focus on giving people what they want. You want to build a community. There are lots of successful gossip and rumors websites and they all have one thing in common: they stay up-to-date with the latest stuff. This is what people want. They want to know what’s going on right now and so you will have to stay on top of that.

Joshua December 10, 2009 at 1:57 am

How can i get my 1 page websites like http://global-forex-trading-blog.blogspot.com/
listed in google. I get everything ready for them. Meta tag, Meta description, backlinks, webmaster tools, ect. How come i cant seem to get these types of websites index. i have websites i created months ago that are still not in google under keywords. Thanks

Nick Stewart February 20, 2010 at 6:17 pm

First off, I visited your link and saw the following message:
“The blog you were looking for was not found.”

It looks like Google has banned you. Is that right?

You’re going to have a hard time getting single page websites ranked high in the search engines. Most successful sites have many pages of content.

I recommend going through my SEO tutorial that I recently wrote and pay special attention to the last part where I talk about how SEO is dying:
http://nickstraffictricks.com/2169_seo-everything-you-need-to-know/

Leigh December 10, 2009 at 2:27 am

I recently read a post on warrior forum about writing articles and back linking. The author of the post stated that he makes sure the article content does not have anything that relates to the web site he is trying to get ranked. In this manner his article is not in competition with his website and he still gets powerful back links (which have the keywords contained in the anchor text). I’ve started to experiment with this method with some success as I have been able to get four sites on the front page of Google within days of creation. Of course the keywords I am targeting are in the URL as well so I’m not sure if that is what is giving them the ranking juice. You have more experience than I so I would like to know if have you experimented with this sort of back linking or something similar and what your thoughts are on whether it is a worthwhile method?

Nick Stewart February 20, 2010 at 6:25 pm

To be honest, I haven’t done a ton of article marketing. I found it time-consuming and decided rather to focus on building a community with my content.

I suspect that we some of your ranking will come from the fact that your targeted keywords are in the URL.

Mark December 10, 2009 at 3:48 am

Hey Nick,

My question is about the effectiveness of social bookmarking. Is social bookmarking really that effective anymore? I read somewhere about creating multiple accounts on the various social sites and bookmarking your sites’ pages repeatedly. I have tried it and had little success. Are the search engines smart enough to realize the bookmarks are all coming from the same person?

Thanks,
Mark

Nick Stewart February 20, 2010 at 6:28 pm

The idea of creating multiple accounts for social media services is missing the point in my opinion.

In my experience social media only works when you great content that people will want to spread. When you have something that is worthy to spread then you utilize social media to get the word out.

If you have crap content then having more social media accounts won’t convince people to spread your crap.

John December 10, 2009 at 4:45 am

Have a further question:

Lets say I create an article called ” yellow widgets”

Should that article have a link to just the authors home page in the resource area (Eg http://www.abc dot com) or would it be best to create a KW rich page on my site e (eg : http://www.abc dot com/yellowwidgets) and have that link in the articles resource box?

Nick Stewart February 20, 2010 at 6:29 pm

I would have a link to a specific page. Part of this reasoning is that some people will actually see the link and click on it. You want those people to go to something relevant.

Matt December 10, 2009 at 4:50 am

How does one get above 100 hits to a website in a day? On top of that, is there a way to analyze where my traffic strategy is weakest?

Nick Stewart February 20, 2010 at 6:31 pm

This is a really hard question to answer because it really depends on your niche. If you have a lot of competition and there are not many people searching for your niche then it will be very difficult.

I would also focus less on the number of hits and more on the quality of the traffic you receive. For a few dollars you can buy 100 hits a traffic but they won’t be worth anything because they are not targeted.

Michael Foust December 10, 2009 at 7:12 am

I am a newbie to this traffic driving thing,is there any end to
all that one must do to get traffic to a site if all you have
is Adsense-any information would be helpful!
How do I use social media to drive traffic?
How to use a blog like squidoo and have more to say than just a line or two?
How to make a signature file for all
three with a web address without spamming every time you go to a forum?
If you do these, do you still need to place ads
on other sites? It’s going to get tougher to rank up top and keep
good content rolling in a smooth way.
Obviously you have people. So how does one person do all the
stuff that you’re talking about and not be overwhelmed. There is just so much
information it’s like a three thousand page book-how do you learn it
and still fit in family, job, sleep, etc.?
All these questions I ask and more.

Nick Stewart February 20, 2010 at 6:36 pm

There is no end to the number of things you can do to get traffic. The trick is to prioritize them and figure out which things are worth your time.

Social media can help you get traffic for sure you must start with great content. When you have great content check out stumble upon and onlywire. These will help you get traffic from social media. Also look at what I’ve written about twitter.

If you’re just starting out I don’t recommend playing with squidoo.

Again if you’re starting out I recommend focusing on one website I’m putting that in your signature when you post on forums.

It can seem overwhelming at times. I suggest starting small; choose one website that you want to build up and get traffic to. Build a community where you answer peoples’ questions and generate content around their needs. You can read more about this here:
http://www.nicksinternetmarketing.com/111_how-to-make-money-online-a-simple-business-model/

Jon December 10, 2009 at 8:00 am

Hey Nick,

I’d like to know what kind of income goals I should set for my websites. I’d also like to know when I should cut my losses and abandon a website.

Thanks!

Nick Stewart February 20, 2010 at 6:38 pm

This is really hard to answer because it’s different for every person. Some people have a lot of time and very little money and so they are willing to work for next to nothing to build up their website.

Other people have a family to take care of and other responsibilities. These people put a much higher price on their time.

I would definitely set a goal for your website for how much you want to earn, I can’t really tell you what that goal should be and when you should abandon it.

Matthew Gannon December 10, 2009 at 8:24 am

Is using web 2.0 sites worth my time, and if so what is the best way to maximize traffic generation threw them?

Does Social bookmarking still have the kick that it used to with traffic generation and if so whats a good method, or is it just good for getting indexed?

Nick Stewart February 20, 2010 at 6:40 pm

Social media and social bookmarking are excellent sources of traffic. More and more people are turning to them to search for things and get information. They are also decent I getting new indexed by Google but may not help you as much to get ranked high in Google.

But the real power of social media is when you have great content and you tell a few other people via social media. They will spread the word to other people who will spread it even further.

Nick Stewart February 20, 2010 at 6:43 pm

Yes, that is a sort of chicken and the egg problem.

To begin with give value to your readers. Figure out what they want and give it to them. Build a community. You can read more about this here:

Almost everything you need is free.

I think the rules are slightly different I wouldn’t worry about those differences. Your time is better spent creating fantastic content and building a community.

Trey December 16, 2009 at 5:35 am

What is the best traffic tactic to get targeted traffic with the least amount of work?
What is (in your opinion) the greatest untapped traffic source?

Thanks, Trey

Nick Stewart February 20, 2010 at 7:00 pm

If you have money to spend, you can get super targeted traffic with pay per click. But you have to pay for it.

If you’re looking for free traffic sources there is no easy solution that requires no work. If there was then everybody would jump on it and they would no longer be effective.

I believe the greatest untapped traffic source is social media. Sites like twitter and stumble upon can send a ton of traffic to your site. But most people go about it the wrong way. They try to take crap content and make it go viral. But people aren’t going to spread garbage to their friends. So if you make truly fantastic content and social media has the potential to send you a ton of traffic.

Mike December 16, 2009 at 1:42 pm

If I have a high ranking will my site remain in that spot without doing anything more?

Nick Stewart February 20, 2010 at 7:01 pm

This really depends on your niche. Usually though, your content will become outdated. Or someone else will come up with something even better. This will cause your ranking to slowly go down.

How Important it is to the average ranking of a medium competition level?

Nick Stewart February 21, 2010 at 4:30 pm

If you’re trying to build a community I recommend focusing on building great content for your visitors.

jeremy December 20, 2009 at 12:45 pm

Hi can you tell me, how to get massive amounts of backlinks with very little effort?

Nick Stewart February 21, 2010 at 4:32 pm

There are numerous ways to build back links but most of them take a lot of time. You can always pay someone else to do this for you and save yourself a lot of time. You’re simply trading money for time.

I don’t know of any way to build massive amounts of back links for little money and little time. If there was I suspect that everyone would do it.

Nick Stewart February 22, 2010 at 1:53 pm

If you have a very specific niche with no competition then you can rank high in Google and stay ranked without constantly adding content.

But if you have a lot of competition this will be far more difficult. If you don’t add content you are probably not going to get very much traffic from social media like twitter or stumble upon.

Peggy December 29, 2009 at 3:25 am

Social Media: Grrr! What a huge elephant. It does not seem to matter how many small bites you take it just doesn’t become any easier to digest. I have a laundry list of questions regarding the Web 2.0 pandemic. However, I would really like to know about deep linking. Everything I read tells me to link to the most current post on your blog O.K. But then they ask for the URL? Color me stupid but where or what is that URL? I know it is not the URL of the blog? Please some info would be appreciated.

Regards,

Peggy

Nick Stewart February 22, 2010 at 1:55 pm

If you go to your blog and click on the link to your newest blog post you should see the URL in your address bar.

For example URL of this post is:
http://nickstraffictricks.com/1964_ill-give-you-a-free-copy-of-my-next-traffic-product/

Does that help?

Red January 2, 2010 at 3:47 pm

Hi Nick,

For me how about some traffic tips on using rss feed effectively as direct traffic source in addition to backlinks.

Thanks,
Red

Nick Stewart February 22, 2010 at 2:00 pm

For RSS to really work for you you need to do the following:
- Start with really good content that people want to subscribe to
- Place the link for people to subscribe above the fold on your page. Make it really easy for people to see and find.
- Update your blog a regular basis. If you never update your blog RSS will never notify your readers of new content and it probably won’t help you get any traffic.

Hi Nick,

How to become an affiliate marketer i.e. step-by-step instructions?
Is it easy or difficult? How much money is in it? what are the best sources?

How to become an affiliate merchant i.e. step-by-step instructions?
Which networks i.e. linkshare, shareasale, etc. is the best and cost little?

Thanks,

Rob

Nick Stewart February 22, 2010 at 2:23 pm

The answer to your question is long and complicated. So I will save all the gritty details for a future blog post but I will share a few insights that I have right now.

I would estimate that 3% of affiliate marketers make 97% of the money. This means that nearly everybody who starts out in affiliate marketing will never make any money. Those that figure out how to do it correctly can become very wealthy.

So one thing you need to do to be successful in affiliate marketing is to first identify a market (not a product!). Figure out what people are hungry for and then look for product to satisfy that hunger. Most people starting out do just the opposite.

Once you’ve found a market and a product you need to figure out how many units you need to sell to make it worth your while. For example if your goal is to make $6000 a month and you are trying to sell $1 widgets then you will need to sell 6000 of widgets. This means you have to sell 200 widgets every single day. If you have a conversion rate of 5% (5 out of 100 visitors buys) then you will need 4000 visitors to your website every day so you can make 200 sales. That a fair amount of traffic for most niches.

On the other hand if you are selling widgets for $200 then you only have to make one sale per day. If you have a conversion rate of 1% (1 out of 100 visitors buys a widget) then you will need 100 visitors to your website every day to make 1 sale.

100 visitors each day is far easier than 4000 visitors everyday.

Selling more expensive products can cut down on the amount of traffic you need.

There are many different affiliate networks and each one has great products that you can promote. Just find a market first and then look for product. I would select the network that had the products that best matched by market.

The other problem with affiliate marketers is that they all do the same thing. They all put up the same banner ads and try to generate traffic with the same methods and they end up not making any money.

For example, let’s say there is $500 a day to be made in the widget market. So if you’re the only selling widgets then you should be able to make $500 a day with the single sales page banner ad. But when 500 people start selling widgets with the same sales page and banner ad then that $500 a day is split between 500 people. The average person is going to only make $1 per day.

So to make it in affiliate marketing you need to do something to make you stand out. You need to figure out how to give more value than anyone else. This could be in the form of comprehensive product reviews. This could be in the form of the building a community where you answer peoples questions and they trust you and so they buy from you.

Hi Nick, my question is, what are the best free offline methods to get traffic to your online business?

thanks

thanks

Nick Stewart February 22, 2010 at 2:28 pm

Good question. I haven’t really done much with off-line marketing but I would really like to.

There are so many different ways to get traffic with off-line marketing I think it really depends a lot on your niche. There is a book called Guerrilla Marketing which details numerous ways to build your business for very cheap.

One of the best ways to get traffic off-line is to network with people in niches related to your own. So if you had a wedding dress business and website you could network with wedding planners, wedding cake makers, wedding invitation sellers, etc.

How do I increase my Google page rank?
Another question, if I do not have a great number of friends in Facebook, what is the best way to get traffic from there?

Nick Stewart February 23, 2010 at 1:51 pm

You can increase your Google page rank by building more back links. But I have come to believe that Google page rank doesn’t really matter as much anymore. I posted a video about this here:
http://nickstraffictricks.com/1924_video-google-pagerank-doesnt-matter/

Facebook has an option where you can buy traffic is very targeted. Another option is to build a “fan of” page for your website or product.

Denise Bertacchi January 22, 2010 at 3:30 pm

Hey Nick:
I guess I’m not like your regular visitors – I’m a freelance writer. So I’m more interested in getting the keywords into well written articles that will then generate traffic on places like Suite101, eHow, or even Examiner. Suite and eHow pay based on ads my readers click, so in the end…its the same thing!

Nick Stewart February 23, 2010 at 1:56 pm

Every article needs begin with a fantastic title. A title that grabs you hook, headline, and sinker. I wrote about writing good headlines here:
http://www.nicksinternetmarketing.com/39_4-tips-for-creating-blog-post-titles-that-grab-you-hook-headline-and-sinker/

As a writer you may already know all of this.

Another idea is to write about things that people really care about, like things that cause them pain. This pain can be physical or emotional or mental. People who are in some kind of pain are looking for information on how to alleviate their pain.

We have almost completed a new website for our company. We have already bought the right domain name (it contains the right keywords). Can you suggest some cheap (read:inexpensive) ways to generate traffic to my new website?

Thanks
Vishal

Nick Stewart January 23, 2010 at 7:47 pm

Sure thing.

Start with great content on your site.

Then start building backlinks and use social media. Do you have a twitter account that people can follow you on?

Witney Accountants February 18, 2010 at 2:23 pm

Yes I do have a twitter account. The video you posted about how to increase traffic through social media has been removed for some reason. Is it available elsewhere? how does it work?

When you cloak your original url to atain a better domain name/url ( containing your main keyword ) , what url is spidered first by google , the new cloaked url or are the spiders still detecting the original poor url first and how will it affect the traffic you get from the search engines ?

Nick Stewart February 23, 2010 at 1:58 pm

There is no way to tell which URL the spiders will find first. I’m not totally sure how cloaking affects your search engine rankings.

Instead, I usually start by choosing the right keywords and then buy the domain with those keywords in it. This way I don’t have to do any cloaking.

Hi Nick,

Love everything on your site! And I was happily surprised today when I got the link for your Keyword Research pdf in my Inbox.

I’ve shared it with my “peeps” today on my blog at http://tastingtheinternet.com/social-media-blog. And I’ve added a link back to you for all the other great free resources you offer.

Thanks!

Having got the right keywords for a PPC campaign, how about something on writing the ads themselves. Not a lot of room to manouver , and yet you want qualified leads coming though.

Nick Stewart February 23, 2010 at 2:02 pm

There have been books written about this very topic. But I will try to keep this short.

First thing is to get in the mindset of your client. What are they looking for? Of all the benefits and features of your particular product, which single one do they care about most? As you said, you don’t have a lot of room so you need to pick the most important one.

Another thing you can do is search for your keywords on Google and look at which ads show up. Make note of these ads and see if they are there the next day. Do this every day for a week and if the same ads keep appearing then they probably have a decent click through rate.

Could you do a short explanation of how Google determines the keywords to use for a Google Maps entry?

Great question. Unfortunately, I have no idea.

When you say RSS feeds on twitter, what do you mean exactly? Are you looking to take an RSS feed of your twitter account and post it places? Or are you trying to take an RSS feed of a website and post it to twitter?

Is there any way to know if Google has negative marks on a domain name so that you can make sure that you’re purchasing one that doesn’t have negative history? I’ve owned my domain for over a year now and as near as I can figure it was used badly in the past because it seems to have difficulty with rankings, even though it is composed of my exact target keywords.

I don’t know of any way to see if your domain has been blacklisted. If you really are concerned about it then consider purchasing a new one. It will only cost you about $10.

In the other hand if your domain has really good content then forget Google and your rankings. Utilize social media and build an e-mail list to get traffic. Most of my traffic doesn’t come from Google.

I used to add more ping services but I haven’t really done that for a few years. I’m not sure how much it matters anymore.

I think the best thing is to write great content and then use stumble upon and only wire to get traffic.

Hey Nick

This is all new to me (I’m a newbie).

I open an account with Host Gator and I received a Free $100 coupon for Google AdWords. I am looking at building a blog to sell Affiliate products on and to build a list. I am still in the planning stage, (Searching for a affiliate product and a WP Theme).
I want to use the $100 Google Adwords coupon wisely.
My question is this – I want to drive traffic to a squeeze page so that I can start building a list, does Google like squeeze pages? And what is the correct way to use Adwords and a squeeze page and affiliate links?

Nick Stewart April 13, 2010 at 7:43 am

The answers to your questions are long and complicated. But I will try to keep it simple.

If you want to make money off of affiliate products that I recommend picking a niche, taking a great product that has a market for it, building a website where you give away value to your visitors, use that website to build an e-mail list, and then market your affiliate products to your e-mail list and on your blog.

I outlined a strategy to do this from scratch here:

Hi Nick. When I check Google webmaster toolsm my clickthrough rate for terms I rank for is not good. From March to April I have about 128 impressions but only 12 clicks. My title tags and description tags are optimized. I always try to make my titles enticing, and the descriptions are to the point. I don’t understand the low click through rate. What am I doing wrong. I know that some terms are not on the front page of Google so that may explain the click through for those, but some of my terms are on page one, and in the second spot, but still, very low click through rate. Unless, google webmaster’s info for my site is inaccurate. But I don’t think so.

You have 128 compressions and 12 clicks. That’s about a 10% click through rate which really isn’t that bad. What were you expecting?

Katina April 25, 2010 at 9:26 am

I thought that was pretty low for as many times that my site was found using search terms. I guess I was thinking more in terms of visitors. If only 12 people actually visited from the search engines in a month’s time, I would say that’s not great. Wouldn’t you? Or am I thinking about it in the wrong way. I was expecting more visitors since I have so many terms that I am starting to rank for.

Nick,

I am taking your challenge and asking you a question to see if you can answer me

I need some PAID traffic ASAP. I have lots of organic traffic, but my PPC ran out of funds and at an average of .57 a click, it adds up fast, so I stopped it for a while until profits resume.

I need to use PPV or PPC at a rate of LESS that .05 A click or A view>???

Does this set off any buzzers in your head, and if not, then why don’t you find one, be an affiliate for them and let us give YOU our money, as I am lazy, sick of searching out new avenues and will gladly pay someone else if they can get me results

I have followed all youir tips daily and subscribed to your videos and I can honestly tell you that everything I have done for the past 30 days with my new site, I now have 1st page on Google #6 for certain long tail keyword phrases and with over 1.9 million pages!!! WOW….. ONE MONTH! I cannot complain at all, so I just do ONE of your tips every day, upload to every video site and cross link everything, works like a charm

By the way, Squidoo again LOCKED my 2nd site because they claim its vulgar and not only don’t they allow these types of dating sites, its not something Squidoo likes.
When i questioned and debated them, I got so much mail, I had to stop comments and replies. One lady told me I’m supporting prostitution???

However, there are still over 45-100 sites that relate to mine that are still up and running. Not that I would, but your readers should know again, as you have stated before…NEVER put anything making money on Squidoo or any FREE sites and rely on that entirely, or you could be out of business tomorrow

Thanks for your support and please let me know if you can answer my question

JB

Nick Stewart May 29, 2010 at 10:49 am

First off you need to be really careful when you’re doing PPC. It sounds like you already got burned. You need to find out what your conversion rate (how many visitors does it take to make one sale?) is before you spend money on traffic.

Stumble upon will allow you to send traffic for five cents per visitor. But I don’t believe the traffic is as targeted as Google adwords.

When doing pay per click you need to make sure that you put a cap on your daily budget.

A few years ago I used to promote building content for squidoo and services like it. I have since realized that it’s foolish to spend time building useful and I able content and then posting on someone else’s website (i.e. squidoo) and taking the risk that they may shut you down.

If you read through their terms of service you’ll probably find that they have the right to do whatever they want with the content you publish on their system. As soon as you submit the content to them you no longer have control over it. They control it and they can take it down anytime they want. This is a big part of why I recommend that you have your own domain with your own blog and pay for your own hosting.

Before you spend any more money on pay per click are there any organic ways you can get traffic? What is your niche?

Search engines website June 9, 2010 at 6:40 am

Hi Nick,

One of the areas I am currently looking at is internal links. I want to cover it in my own blog but have read two contrasting opinions; one which says that too many anchored internal links within your own site can actually damage your search engine placement and one which says it does not. I like linking blogs and helping a reader to navigate the many entries but is this going to do more harm than good? What’s your knowledge/experience of this?

If your purpose is to help your readers then you probably won’t hurt your search engine ranking at all. I would only be worried if each page of your site had 1000 links to other pages.

Hi Nick,
I want to start adding some training videos to my new site and I’m wondering what video component you use to make your videos?

I know there is Jing which is free and then there’s Camtasia which is quite expensive – $300 or $400. Is there an inexpensive one that works well that you can recommend or is Jing good enough?
Bennington’s last blog ..GIMP – Free Photoshop Alternative My ComLuv Profile

Nick Stewart June 18, 2010 at 7:21 am

I was debating whether or not I wanted to make videos for a month or two. When I finally decided to make videos I wanted to do it the right way and get the right software. So I spent the $300 on camtasia and it has proven to be an excellent choice.

There are some cheaper alternatives out there but I don’t know what they are and how well they perform.

Are you planning on making money from your training videos? Do you planning on making a lot of money because if you are then $300 for good software is a good investment.
