There a lot of people out there who focus solely on the number of people they can get to follow them on twitter. While having more followers is definitely a nice thing it doesn’t guarantee more traffic.
What really matters is the quality of your content that you send to twitter. If you tweet about things that are incredibly useful then your followers will be far more likely to retweet your stuff.
Seth Godin wrote about this recently in a post: Viral growth trumps lots of faux followers
Once you have great content then having more followers can help you spread your idea faster. But just remember, everything starts with great content and great ideas. Without them it won’t matter how many followers you have.

I'd have to agree. I only have about 100 followers, but a couple of my posts have received over 20 RT's. You just have to find content that will connect with people and it twill then do it's own promotion.
20 RT is pretty good. And probably a lot more useful than having 1000 followers.
I absolutely agree! The content is still a king. If you have great tweets, you get more RTs/DMs and/or questions/commnets from "strangers", which I appreciate much more than the number of my followers.
