Hey, that's an insightful video. If you are leaving comments behind with the mere hope to build backlinks then the no follow attribute needs to be taken into consideration. However, if you do want to drive appropriate traffic to your website then leaving 'intelligent' comments on blogs and forums (which have a no follow feature) is a good idea.
Thanks.
Good point. Leaving intelligent comments is a great way to get traffic.
I agree reasoned, on topic blog comments are a great way to get traffic back to your website. I find I get about 20% of my traffic from blog comments.
Spammy comments? What a waste. I wish we could get the word out to more new website owners that this tactic is of limited usefulness so they can stop wasting their time and ours.

It would be nice to get the word out but it's just not going to happen. If only everyone would use akismet or other spam blocking plug-ins for their blogs.
My sentiment exactly. NoFollow and DoFollow links each has its own use depending on what we want to accomplish.
I did notice something funny though. When I was checking the links to one of my blogs I saw that Yahoo has indexed a couple of NoFollow links. I double checked and according to the firefox addon I'm using the link was NoFollow but still Yahoo showed it as counted. I'm thinking that different search engines have different algorithms.
Anyway, I don't let that cosume my time thinking. For me it's just another search engine mystery that may or may not one day be answered.

Very true. Yahoo has a different search algorithm than Google. But for the most part I don't really worry about it.
