Nick's Traffic Tricks

I (barely) Missed My Twitter Goal For March

My goal for the month of March was to add 85 new followers on twitter. This would have put me at 425 total followers.

Looking at my twitter account this morning, April 3rd, I have 422 followers. I didn’t reach my goal but I came close.  I was only 3 followers short.

My goal for the month of April is to add an additional 85 new followers. I believe I can achieve this.

What are your goals?

Without a goal to add 85 new twitter followers by April I don’t think I would have added hardly any followers.  I missed my goal but I still did far better than if I didn’t have a goal.

More followers means more traffic.

What are your traffic goals?

Least it is heading in the right direction. I am focusing on getting SEO traffic at the moment – so twitter is on the backburner.

Hi Nick,

Well congratulations on your new found prosperity. I would like to add you to our list of friends, but so far Akismet has promised me that if I try to give you our full Do follow blog information here, they will send me to your trash folder.

You deserve good and faithful internet friends, Nick, and we would like not only to be your friend but to offer you free backlinks. Hard to carry on a friendship though when Akismet trashes everything we write in our website's name.

Hopefully you will rescue this comment, and unblock ToysPeriod, although I think that unless Akismet someday decides to unblock the website, you will not be able to do that unilaterally.

Let me know how things stand, Nick. And, again, congratulations on reaching your leadership and financial goals. Dr. Ann

Nick,

I am not using Twitter, but am interested in how much traffic you receive from there. Is it worth the effort? Are the readers comming via twitter others than via RSS ?

Twitter and other social media is definitely worth the effort as long as you have good content. I do get traffic from twitter and I suspect that much of it is different then I would get from RSS.

Hi Nick,

I am glad that you check your spam folder.

However, that does not alter the fact that prospects with web addresses of which Akismet does not approve will be mistreated BEFORE Nick rescues them.

It is not everyone who will go so far as to leave you a comment after he or she finds out that Akismet is going to trash anything he or she says on your site. They may never check back with you at all, having gotten pie in the face on your good site.

In addition, there are many many sites that Akismet totally blocks from placing comments at all. So in those cases, the blog owner will never know that a comment was made.

In other words, what we have here is blog owners consciously deciding that they are willing to throw away approximately 5% of their potential prospects for the sake of convenience.

This is not something we as a College would ever recommend. It is a violation of the very first principle of business, that is, treat every new prospect like gold.

Akismet "protected" sites on average lose about 10% of their potential business, simply because the visitors (like anyone from ToysPeriod) will be trashed immediately. Why would they return in that case.

I say 10% because a blog, no matter how good, will not appeal to about 5% of the population. Then we add the Akismet rejects on top of that.

As you know, people who are mistreated by businesses tell nine bad stories to every one story they will tell if they are treated well.

Thanks for listening, Nick.

I am going to send this message twice.

First with the ToysPeriod web address, and then without. It is the second one that you will be reading, since that is the one, as commenter and potential client, I will see go to moderation, which is the way every potential fan or client should be treated.

Warm regards,

Dr. Ann Voisin

In my experience it is correct about 95% of the time. That's good enough for me and saves me a lot of time.

I looked through my spam folder every day and approve valid comments.
