Today we going cover the various aspects of buying a domain.
My favorite place to buy domains is GoDaddy.
I have purchased more than 50 domains from them and have had a good experience with them.
I strongly recommend registering a .com for your first domain. The reason is that many junk sites that Google bans have .info domains.
To register your .com will typically cost $8-$9 a year.
I also recommend you register your domain for 2 years. Many of the junk sites that Google bans are registered for only 1 year. The longer you register your domain for the better. But if money is tight then 2 years is a good length of time to start with.
Secure Registration
When you register a domain you are required to give personal information such your name, address, phone number, and email address. All of this information is associated with your domain and becomes publicly available. Anyone with an Internet connection can do what’s called a ‘whois’ search, lookup your domain and see all your personal info.
Do a whois search for any domain:
http://www.google.com/search?q=whois
One of the features that I like about registering my domain with GoDaddy is that they offer secure registration. Instead of having your personal information being publicly available GoDaddy will put their corporate information in place of yours. When someone does a whois search on your domain they will see GoDaddy’s instead of your own.
Secure registration does cost extra but it’s worth it if you want to keep your personal information secure.
