Twitter Part 4: Interacting With Followers

This is part of my 30 Days To More Traffic Series

Introduction

I try to keep my interaction with my twitter followers fairly simple. Every day I do a few quick things.

Tweets mentioning @NicksTraffic

I like to see who has mentioned me (@NicksTraffic) on twitter. If someone mentions me it’s usually a because they have a question or they have retweeted something of mine.

If you are logged into twitter you can see who has mentioned you here:
https://twitter.com/#replies

I always send a thank you to anyone who has retweeted my stuff. I will also sometimes look at their profile and see if there’s anything I want to retweet to my followers.

Answering questions

I also answer questions people have. Sometimes I can answer the question in 140 characters. When I don’t have enough characters I will tweet them with my e-mail address and ask them to e-mail me with their question.

Responding to direct messages

Sometimes people want to keep things a little more private and will ask their questions with a direct message. I respond to them each day.

Tweeting valuable stuff

A big part of interacting with your followers is tweeting stuff that they care about. They followed you for reason so make sure that you only tweet stuff they care about.

alright call me a nasty name but I never check my direct messages, there is just to much garbage to sort through but I do have my tweetdeck set up to track @replies and respond to every one of those.

Haven't really gone into Twitter but have heard and read some good things about it particularly traffic possibilities. Maybe one day when I have fewer things on my plate I'll give it a closer look.

Well I'm on twitter (@citrustech), but I do struggle to keep up. I tend to use it much more when out and about and less when I'm in the office — I try to focus on one thing at once and it's a distraction I guess.

But I really do want to be better at it and to better interact with people — I'm sure I can make more of it. Anyone got any other good points on how to actually use twitter without being a spammer?

In the end I think twitter is about engaging with other people. When people ask questions be sure to answer them. Tweet useful things to your followers.

I may be behind the curve, or not even within the ballpark, but I have yet to see any useful purpose to Twitter save one. I do SEO for a living and for better or worse, the search engines (primarily Google) pay a lot of attention to Twitter. If I want to get something indexed fast (like within 2 hours, I just tweet about it. But frankly, if you look at Tweetdeck, and I don't care who you're following, it's pretty much just noise. Can someone explain to me how Twitter makes money? Is it even a sustainable business model? I predict it "twill" be gone within the next year or two.

I have the same question. I have no idea how they're going to make enough money to pay for everything.

I never concentrated on Twitter. To get traffic from twitter, we need people to follow us. How to make them follow our tweets Nick?

Identify your and tweet stuff they will like. You cannot “make” people follow; you have to attract them.

You mean, we need to retweet one of their posts and then follow them?

No, you need to tweet content that makes them want to follow you. Many of my followers on Twitter follow me because they like what I tweet and I interact with them and answer their questions.

Make sense?
