Nice one, Nick. We all recognize that Google is important, but they're not the only game in town. Thanks.

Hi Nick,

I have a question about Google Analytics. I have a site running WordPress on my own domain and I installed Google Analytics in a widget on it. Lately I have been coming across sites that say GA doesn't work on WP without a plugin. Is this maybe an old situation that I don't need to worry about with WP 2.9.2 or am I not tracking data as fully as if I added a GA plugin?

Appreciate your help.

I added GA to wordpress theme and it's great. Does your widget show up on every page? If it does then I think things should be just fine.

Getting traffic from google is all about link building a proper SEO. I don't know if yahoo really has a method, but just keep getting google traffic and sometime yahoo and bing will catch onto your site.

I don't specifically target any one search engine, but I have noticed that I get a disproportionate amount of my traffic from Bing and Yahoo!. Somehow what I'm doing resonates more with those search engines, and my rankings are better there.

I just roll with it. Try to make good content. Spend a bit of time trying to get some attention, then move on.

I tend to do the same thing for all my sites, so I don't really get "how to focus on a particular search engine".

So if we find a bias in traffic from Yahoo!, what should we do to further optimize for Yahoo!?

You could spend more time on Yahoo answers and making a Yahoo profile with links to your site. You could also look at who has the top Yahoo position and where they get their backlinks and do the same.

OK Thanks for the tips. I never participated in Yahoo answers so it is an area to test.

Nick really enjoyed the video, I liked the way you showed the GA for both your sites, but if you don't yet have an established website, I think it's alot harder to see which Search Engine you should really focus on. If anything, I think in the long run, if you do really good seo, then you should be ranking really well consistently across all search engines. At least that's the pattern I always see from my competitors who out rank me.

Till then,

Jean

Very true. If you are starting out brand-new and have no traffic than Google analytics won't help you right off. If this is the case then you go with your normal search engine optimization routine.
