I've tried self-hosted and YouTube.
Prefer YouTube since it also gives you another environment to market your stuff – people will see these that probably didn't know about your site.
Very true. I am trying to build up followers on my YouTube Channel.
Without a doubt youtube, one other tip that you did not mention, is that you can actually make money on your youtube videos if they get popular!

Its not a bad idea to use you tube you can actually use it to your advantage with the video responses and get a lot of link juice.
Have you also used video distribution tools like tubemogul? And in case of yes, did you get much traffic from the video portals these tools support?
I have not tried them though I have heard of Tubemogul.
Great job explaining your preference to use YouTube. I agree with all the points you hit and some of the points your commenters have touched on too. I think I will take the YouTube route. Thanks.

I have used Tubemogul and I like it. It is a free video distribution site to all kinds of video hosting platforms.
