I recently stopped using Aweber. Not because I wasn’t happy with the service but because I sold the site I was using it for. For 2 years I was a very happy customer with Aweber and wouldn’t rule out using them again. However, starting a new blog gave me the opportunity to look more into what alternatives there are out there for email marketing.
Even though Aweber is one of the better services, I think one of the biggest problems with them was that a lot of ISPs used to flag the mails Aweber sent out, as spam.
Used to? Have they fixed this? Haven't heard about this.
I'm using aweber before and now I switch to Mailchimp and for me it was good. Thanks for sharing this alternatives Nick!
Nick,
thanks for the link to this very useful comparison of services.
I just switched from using external email service providers to a selfhosted solution.
Some might say this is not working and the deliverability is less than when using a professional service that has all teh good relations to the ISPs.
Could be trrue, in some cases.
I for my part think that I have more control over the newsletter now. Not only can I control layout much better, I also improve my branding as I don't have the ESPs url in my links but my own domain name.
Regarding cost: I am still in less than 1,000 subscribers category, but acording to your post this would need a monthly outlay between 15-30 USD. the application i am running now cost me about 60 USD onetime and the investment is recoverd in 2-3 month.
