For me, competition is always an awesome thing. But you have to know how to leverage the competition and work with them and not against them.
Also, competition in a market is simply an indicator that the market is worth going into. If you find a niche that has zero competition, you may need to ask yourself why.

Great points. The competition level in the market does indicate how much money people are willing to spend in that market.
