Hi Nick, I've just stumbled over your blog and I really like what I see so far :) Do you have any preference on a PPC program to drive traffic? I know everyone uses Adwords mostly, but have you had success with any other programs?

Reply

Nick Stewart April 21, 2011 at 12:23 am

I personally don't use pay per click programs anymore but prefer organic and free traffic methods. So I can't really recommend any alternatives to Google AdWords.

Hello Rajat,

go to Adwords Keyword tool and select a keyword which has low competition and high searched value. That should work.

I wondered what you thought of services that just sell traffic, it looks like some placed provide 1000 visitors for $5, I know very little about these types of visitor but you would think if you get 1k then some of them will be related to what you are after.

I have seen a lot of people warning that such services are no good but the companies seem to stay in business and I have to wonder if they are staying in business they must be getting some kind of repeat business?

Nick,

how much does the age of a domain influence the ranking (and consequently the traffic you can gain)?

Thanks for any insights.

Reply

Nick July 15, 2011 at 1:38 am

The age of the domain is one of something like 200 factors that Google considers when ranking your site. To be honest I don't think it matters a whole lot. I think having your keywords in your domain is far more important.

I'm not sure what you're asking here. Are you trying to leave comments on other blogs and build back links? Or something else?

> how to add you home bar in my blog

I think you are referring to an element in my blog theme. There are thousands of free themes available and you should consider looking for one with a home bar that you like.

As Frank Sinatra sings, “I’ve been up and down and over and out..” – I’m talking about my Google rankings. Seriously, watching my rankings could give you whiplash. Sometimes I’m right where I want to be – in the top three. Then suddenly, I’m down around 800-900! Sometimes I’m down for weeks, sometimes days. My sites are optimized every way I can think of. My backlink profiles are as diverse as I know to make them. I have back links from a blog network and article marketing. I buy small packets of various types of links from Warrior Forum or Fiver to add to the mix. But mostly I leave comments on high PR sites most are do follow. I make sure some of them are on .edu and .gov sites. I’d love to know if there is something else I should be doing. Thank you and I think it’s very cool that you offer your readers personalized help!

My biggest issue with traffic on a few of my sites is how things change when the term you’re going after is a competitive term. I see it’s more difficult to rank. Some say it’s a matter of more links, while others say that more content is key. I’m doing both, and my rankings tend to fluctuate quite a bit, one week I’ll be on page 1 then two weeks later page three and so on.

Will look for your “Ask A Question” feature here on your site and see if you can help?

Cheers!

Hi Brent,

There is no one-size-fits-all solution to getting traffic; what works for some people will not work for others.

Let’s start at the beginning: What is your URL and who is your target audience? And what are you trying to sell on your website?

After you answer those questions I will have a foundation from which I can help you. I also recommend reading:

Hi nick, i have a website that had a url indexed by google since 2002, i have not done any seo on this or backlink to it. In Ocotber of 2011 i put up a site with quality content in hope of it would rank well on the search engines for low competition keywords, i continue to provide content and consistently backlink to it from different ips. I am a moderate at SEO but i have never had the time till recently to launch a site. My site was doing perfectly fine in the search engines, ranking on page 2 for my target keyword without even backlinking to it at all. Than i decided to backlink to it and i waited for two weeks. After that i noticed my rankings diseapered. I found it on page 800+ and no matter what i do know it wont move from the rankings. I do not know if this is sandboxed or i am facing a penalty of some sort, maybe the panda updates affected me. Can you please explain as you are a expert in this?

Thank You, Matt

Sorry for late reply my website is on my name, I changed it from videos to articles because my site hasn’t been moving from the rankings, i though that was the problem but apparently not. I know the site can rank because it used to until i started backlinking to it which leaves on page 800+ now. This seems to be a overall site phenomenon

Nick,

Please can you recommend a few good books on Social Media Marketing?

Thanks,

Reply

Nick February 9, 2012 at 8:52 pm

Unfortunately most of the books on social media are not very useful. They give you advice on how to set up your twitter account and find a few followers.

So it was a pleasant surprise when I read Zarrella’s Hierarchy of Contagiousness: The Science, Design, and Engineering of Contagious Ideas by Dan Zarrella . I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in using social media to build a community and get traffic.

Hi Nick, I’m following this article from you http://nickstraffictricks.com/4856_how-to-rank-1-in-google/, but I’ve a doubt.
The website I’m working for is from Brazil, so I need to rank the keyword in google.com.br, how I do that?
The keyword I’m working for is on 4th page in google.com (checked using seocentro keyword rank tool), but this same keyword doesn’t appear on top 100 in google.com.br.
I need to do anything different to rank in a specific country?

Also I think this could make a nice article for your website.

Thanks in advance.

Reply

Nick February 9, 2012 at 8:55 pm

To be honest I’m not really sure how to get rained in Brazil’s Google listing. You’ll probably have to do some research on Google for that.

Izaias Almeida February 9, 2012 at 6:34 pm

Hey Nick, Just the complement of my other comment.

Now the keyword I’m working is on 2nd page of google.com and 9th of google.com.br.

Sorry for taking so long to respond – it’s been a rough week.

First off, do you have Google Analytics or another stat tracker running? If you do, you can see where your traffic was comming from and what sources of traffic dried up. Your main source might be Google or it might be Facebook, Yahoo, StumbleUpon, or something else.

> please help me to achieve my past position

What was your past position in Google for what keyword?

I’m also emailing this to you.

Hi Nick, I use the SEOmoz service to help build my google rank. It is expensive and I am struggling to justify it at the minute. I feel sure there are just as good free services – any thoughts?

Reply

Nick April 20, 2012 at 7:45 am

I’m not familiar with their exact service. What kind of service are you looking for?

Reply

Peter Conditioning April 23, 2012 at 1:41 am

They offer a mixed bag of services, but the really useful ones are:
- Analying your competitors back links
- a calculation of your website authority
- monitors your search engine ranking change for selected keywords
- combines the info from you Google analytics (not so useful)
- analyses your pages for errors, dup content, missing tags etc.

Reply

Nick April 23, 2012 at 7:32 am

There are probably some free services or plug-ins that can do some of these.

Peter Conditioning April 25, 2012 at 10:33 am

Thanks Nick I’ll have a look around.
I am in danger of hogging this blog, but this question has bugged me for some time:
I have been building links to my site for the last couple of months and I have come across a large number of web directories that claim to offer dofollow links. However, when I look at the HMTL for the link, it appears that the link redirection is handled internally (e.g. Business name) rather than a staight forward natural link (e.g. business name). Two questions: 1. can and does google navigate these types of links? 2. can these types of links still actually be dofollow links?

Hi i have been reading and following everything on this blog for over 3-4 months. After i build Backlinks to my site, Google makes my rankings go down even further. I have been doing studying and doing SEO for about two months now. I have seen rankings increase for a short while to page 1+ and than after a while the rankings suddenly tanked to about page 12+. Its been there for over two weeks. I want to know if this is normal and if i should continue to build backlinks?

It depends on your content, niche, and competition. What’s your site?
