Everybody knows that traffic has to be earned yet more and more people are just sitting back waiting for Google to stick them on the first page for their desired keywords. Trust me, when it comes to ranking on Google you have to do more than sit there. The problem that most people have while they wait for Google to find their site is they are not getting any traffic and this is a real killer for any new website owner.
It doesn’t matter whether you are getting 1000 visitors per day or only 15 visitors per day, writing guest posts will certainly increase your traffic. The nice thing about guest posts is you are not limited in what you are can write about, as long as you stick within your niche you will do just fine. Now I know doing guest posts can be a little difficult at times and that is why I have put together this short list of tips to help you get the most traffic through guest posts as you possibly can.
Tips To Get Traffic From Guest Posts
Write Quality Content
The most important part of guest posting is that you write quality content that the websites readers would enjoy. Most people think that quantity is what will get you the most traffic when in reality will get you 10 times more traffic and a lot faster too. The trick to writing quality content is to come up with your title and all the key points first and then expand on them. Just know that nobody is a perfect writer and the more guest posts you do the better you will become.
Participate In The Comments
One thing that is vital to getting traffic to your site is to answer and respond to all the comments that are posted on your guest post. The reason why this works to get more traffic is because you can then point the commentators to articles that you have written that might solve a problem or answer a question that they have. The goal of participating in the comments is not to steal as much traffic as you can, the goal is to establish trust and show your expertise in the field that you are writing in.
Write 2 Guest Posts Per Week
Something that I have been doing for a while now is writing 2 guest posts each week and it has worked quite well for me. The traffic that you get from guest postings will greatly improve your website but once you stop writing the traffic will slowly digress. The reason why I only write 2 guest posts per week is so that I don’t neglect my own websites and the business that I am trying to build.
Expand The Audience
If you want to get loads of traffic then you need to write guest posts for a bunch of different websites. The reason why writing guest posts for a bunch of different websites works is because you will expand your audience beyond your usual readers. Most website owners don’t see the upside to this but what you need to realize is that every guest post you write will attract some different people and you never know if those people will result in some kind of profit for you.
The last thing I want to make sure you understand about guest posting is that it will take some time, you can’t just write 10 high quality posts in a single day and expect them to get published. Writing a guest post takes times and that is why writing 2 per week is a great starting point for you. Just remember that when it comes to getting traffic guest posts are the “Easy way out”.

This week I wrote 7 guest posts all of which have been published and in that time i have received 474 visitors from those sites.
that is how you get more traffic on demand.

Bumper stickers are a great way to drive traffic to a website – depending on what it is about. I have many local websites in different states and I send out bumper stickers to my readers if they comment on the site enough times. This helps people get to know my websites brand as well as increase the traffic.

If you ask any blogger out there that gets a lot of traffic to their website, there is no bad side to guest posting.
If you are meaning that writing posts for your own blog is more important than think again, yes you have to write for your own readers but at the same time you need to get your name and blog out there.

That is very true. If you have a guest post that doesn’t add anything to a blog then the blog owner won’t approve it. Why spend your time writing a post that nobody is ever going to see?
My advice is to always write the best content, I know it is like giving away your ideas for free but sometimes that is what it takes.

I actually write guest posts from various blogs although I dont write them much often. One good advantage of a guest post is that you dont only get to brand yourself and generate traffic, you also get a one way dofollow backlink to your blog or site.

You are correct, one way dofollow backlinks are great but then again so are nofollow backlinks. With one of my newer websites I did a case study where I only went out and got nofollow backlinks and that site actually gets more traffic than one that I started a month earlier.

Guestposts can be a very positive medium for getting traffic and brandbuilding. Also you usually get a doFollow link to your site.
The negative side as I see it is that many see guestposting as the new article marketing. Put your message on someones blog and hope for rank building and traffic. I've seen many guestposts that didn't match the topic of the blog hosting it in a good way. Now think what happens when the blog owner puts more of this substandard content on his blog? He will loose long term readers and the overall topic of his blog gets diluted.
Yes, you need to be smart about accepting guest posts. You need to check them for quality and relevance to your site.
Nick is right – If you are going to be using guest posts on your blog then you need to do your due diligence and check the article, the sites that the author is linking to and even find out a little bit about the author. There is no point in accepting a guest post if it has nothing to do with what your blog is about.

Even if you don't get a dofollow link you should still do guest posts because the traffic is what you are after. I don't just write to get a link (although it is a plus) I write to get my name out there and so that people know what I do from my website.

Seems like some good tips Adam. I just wish I had more time for it. Like you mentioned don't neglect your own sites by doing too much of it. It really depends on your niche. So you will have to find somebody who accepts posts in your niche. So there's probably not a list of everyone who accepts them in every niche. Do a Google search for your keywords + "guest post".
Nick is right, it all depends on your niche. My advice is to just do a search for the keyword that you want to rank for and then start emailing the bloggers are the first 3 pages to see if they accept guest posts. I am sure some of them will.

I have been trying with varying degrees of sucess to improve both visits and page ranking. My site has gradually been creeping up the rankings, but is a long way short of where I want it. I'm assuming that unless I am on page one of Google for my desired keywords, customers are not going to find me.
From the other comments guest posting is a great mechanism to improving visablity; off to try out the advice now.

What I suggest doing is to try to write on blogs you are already reading. Most people go around and look for blogs that they have never read before and if you have never read them then chances are they don't get a lot of traffic.
One thing I do is I will look around online for about 30 minutes everyday in order to find more business ideas and writing topics and when I find a site that I like and might be able to benefit from – I bookmark it.

Try establishing some sort of relationship before you ask to write a guest post for them. Try tweeting their posts, leaving lots quality comments, and make sure you read their guest post guidelines.
Nick is right, if you want to write a guest post, then you need to know what they want on their blog in the first place. Don’t just write a guest post without checking out the guidelines first.

I just heard about "guest posting" for the FIRST time, about a week ago, and I think it was from this very blog! Anyway, I understand the tips given here, they make a lot of sense (e.g. participating in comments, so commenters don't feel ignored, etc.), but here's my question: if you want to try to guest post, just to get your feet wet so to speak, what's the best way to *approach* the blog owner? Do you just come out and say "Hey, I know lots about your subject matter, can I please do a guest post for you?" Or is it better to assume they don't know what a "guest poster" is and start out by explaining what a guest poster is, and that I'd like to try it?
Most blog owners are very busy but they are much more willing to talk to you and listen to your ideas if you have done something to help them out like tweeting their posts, giving them a thumbs up on stumble upon, leaving quality comments, etc.
It will also be helpful if you can point them to a blog that has some examples of your writing.
Thank you for your reply — I actually took your advice and have contacted two bloggers. It's been a couple days, I think I'll give it 'till the beginning of the week and resend my email. I wonder if the email addresses provided in blogs are sometimes ones that aren't checked to often? I know I could actually make a comment reply asking to blog post, but that seems tacky to me, so I'll give it a few more days. And then I guess I'll try contacting a few more bloggers? Eventually, right?

I don't know how fast the traffic works when it comes to guest posting but I think guest posting is just a brilliant technique, a technique very rare which I've not come across in any other business. It'll be a great if we can apply this theory in other professions as well.

If you are wanting traffic from guest posts then you need to write a lot of them. I once wrote 10 guests posts in a week and the traffic the following week was around triple. just put in the work and the traffic will come.

Early on in my days when I first started on the web I was one of those guilty of just waiting around to have a number 1 spot on Google. Took me a while to finally wake up and get to work on it. I dont have much experience with guest posting but what percentage of your posts that you take the time to write actually get posted? The best thing to do is to build a relationship with the owner first. Secondly, send them the title of the blog post you're thinking of writing and ask them if they would be interested in it. This will greatly increase the chances that you will get your post approved.

Most people just send the article and I have done that as well and a lot of the times the blog owner will not accept the article because they don't know where it is really coming from. If you can become friends first then chances of your article being accepted will be much better.

If you write really good posts then a smart blogger will accept them every time. I say this because I get roughly 95% of my guest posts published. The other 5% I will review and see if there is another blog they will go good on and then I will submit it there. Just make sure that if you write the post for link building purposes that you submit it somewhere for a link. I usually submit my articles that nobody wants to hubpages, weebly, or infobarrel.

I think doing guest posts at a rate of 2 per week is a good goal. Whenever I set my goals to high I usually fail, but that seems attainable.
2 is a great goal. Just try to start somewhere and soon you will see that you can write even more than that.

I have been thinking about doing some guest-blogging/posting.
But some niches are difficult to write for, especially if you are not really specialized in the subject.
Your tips are very good. Now I think about it, I do appreciate and respect it if the author of the post reacts to the comments in a professional/friendly and knowledgeable way.
It makes the author look more human, easier to relate to. And those feelings are important if you want to have loyal-readers.
It is very difficult to convey this in a post. So reacting on the comments personalises it.

You are right, there are a lot of niches that are tough to write for and some blogs will not accept guest posts. I have a travel website that is very tough to do guest posts for just because most travel websites don't want another writer on them taking away their traffic.

If you are consistent then it will be easier on you but even if you write 20 guests posts in a month and then take a couple months off, you will still see the traffic increase over that time period.

Good point Nick. If you want to find a website to guest post on then you need to look around and find them because there truly are thousands of them out there. Just make sure your link is relevant to the topic of the site you are writing about.

Guest posting normally works out pretty good. The guest poster does a really good job as he wants to make a good impression on the host and his readers while the host gets fresh content with a different perspective to put on his site. Of course, if it's a well-known and already established person who is the guest blogger, then all the more to benefit for the host.
What you need to understand is that it doesn’t matter if the guest blogger is well known or not. If a person provides great content then that is all that matters.

What sort of size of article do you normally target? I find it hard enough to get a couple of articles a week for my own site – I struggle to get a topic that will be interesting and ultimately will be read.

As far as choosing the guest post site, you have to read the site first. The reason I say this is because you can’t write an article and then just send it somewhere and hope it works for their site. I like to target certain sites when I guest post and the reason is because I read all the blogs that I am posting on.
Just like here on Nickstraffictricks.com – I have done a few guest posts and the reason I continue to do them is because I have more to add to what Nick is already posting.

I think guest posting is an awesome idea. And it is something I should have done long ago, and will start ASAP. To whomever asked how you find them, well I would just use our friend Google to find some blogs that accept guest posts for us, right? Thanks for the tip.

Google is a great way to find guest blogs but they are not the only way to find them. Something you can do is go to blog comments and see who is commenting on an article that you can relate to. This has worked for me a few times.

I like the idea, but how i post in high ranking blog because if i posted a guest post in pr0 it will be useless ” if we add 2 million in Alexa ” . We should choose the high quality blogs and these blogs’s owners should agree.

You start with small blogs and build your way up.
I agree with nick. You don’t want to start submitting guest posts to huge blogs because the chances of them denying your article or much greater and they might have a queue that is backed up for months.

Just a quick update:
This week I wrote 7 guest posts all of which have been published and in that time i have received 474 visitors from those sites.
that is how you get more traffic on demand.

I’m trying to start doing more guest posting – like others the hard part for me is coming up with good ideas.
All you need to do is look around online and see what other people are writing about. This is something that I do when I don’t have a bunch of ideas floating around in my head. Just make sure you don’t steel the title or the content. All you need is the little idea and you do the rest.

Sure you can tell how “good” a blog is by seeing its pagerank etc. but is there any way to tell how many people are actually visiting the blog? What if I write a guest post for a blog with high PR, but no one even reads it?
I usually check the number of comments to get an estimate, but is there any way to be absolutely sure of it?
I always look at comments over anything else. The reason I do this is because a site could get 1,000 visitors per day but if nobody stays, then they won’t read your article.

If you want to see how the site gets traffic from search engines, then go to semrush.com and type in the URL of the site. This will give you an idea of what people are searching for to reach that site.

All you have to do is send them an email. That is what I do and once I know if they do or not I will create a spreadsheet with all the possible guest posting sites out there.
