The short answer is: No, it doesn’t matter and stop obsessing over it.

no it doesnt matter aloat
But for me page rank matters in some Internet Marketers, for example those people we called SEO do their job to raise someone website. one example we can consider that don’t usually after the page rank is the people we called affiliate marketers, they don’t think about the page rank.

Don’t waste your time on PageRank. Concentrate on building traffic. PR is just a mere number, nothing else.

PR doesn’t go along wiht traffic. You can have a good PR’d site but lack of traffic. But you could also have the opposite (Lots of traffic, but low or no PR. OTOH, when you want to sell a site, PR is quite often used to evaluate the site and find a good basis for pricing.
True what you said. I think PR is most used to determine value of a site that has been listed for sale. I do however think it is still important to get backlinks on sites with high PR rank. Although I am not one hundred percent sure how Google judges high PR links with its new algorithm.

People definitely obsess over pagerank yet. The ones that do seem to think everything revolves around it. It really isn’t that import anymore. A pr1-3 can easily out rank a pr 4-6+ in search results. So it doesn’t matter so much in results. The only benefit might be attracting advertisers, but selling links to pass rank is frowned upon by Google anyway. So go figure. I think a pr 1-4 is reasonable. Don’t chase pr5+. Work on your website more than chasing pagerank.

I agree and would take it one step further: don’t worry about page rank at all.
Yes, you’re right Nick, better not to obsess over page rank. No sense chasing twitter, wikipedia etc., like others have said, a site with a PR less than 5 can still appear as a top 10 search result on the first page of Google search results.
Pagerank definitely has some importance so it can never be ruled out completely but I think newer sites that have been indexed over the course of the past few months should place more importance on ensuring good quality content, SEO and traffic instead.

Page rank doesn’t always convert the way people may think. It doesn’t matter as much as it used to . And if you waste time worrying about it you are only hurting yourself with undue stress.
The only reason I look at my pagerank is because that is what people like when they are buying links. I have a few local websites where I sell advertising space to local businesses and the 2 questions I get all the time is what is my pagerank and how many visitors does the site get per month.

I don’t think PR matters at all.

PageRank is more like a quality indicator isn’t it? It would show you that you have a useful site for your readers, and the higher it is, the more useful and larger number of people visit it?
If that is essentially what it shows, then it is more of a confirmation signal than anything else?
One thing that I have noticed is that you can have a small site with a lot of link building, a high bounce rate, and still be PR n/a or zero. On the other hand you can have a site full of great content, lots of it, and immediately get a pagerank higher than that. That seems to confirm that it is about the quality factors of the site?

Yah ranking is based on 200+ factors so obsessing about PR is a waste of time.
Either you have covered the subject the reader is looking for or you have not. Write and cover all the bases of the subject and they will come. Spend more time covering subjects and parts of the subject that the reader wants to know, and your hits will come. Spend no time worrying about PR.
Hi Nick,
PageRank is a certain function, you get a glance at how good a webside is, and it has nothing to do with traffic to the site to do. On my main keyword, has all on Google first page at least PR 4.
Page rank is very important for website authority. Google has losts of filter levels and can automaticly set a filter to a website. If pr is high it will increase authority and result no filter. So there is no a huge traffic fluctuation for high pageranked websites.

Talking about me it matter me just for getting high no. say from 0 to 5. As I personally feel it gives me some feeling of satisfaction that my site really have some value.
But from the viewpoint of works it foolishness if we give all our attention to PR as it just NOUMBER coz there are lots many other important thing which is 100 times more important than this.

Page rank no longer is needed to help rankings, the days are long gone when pr mattered. The quality of links and the maturity of the Url is far more important. check for yourself, choose a sector and you will notice that there are lower pr ranked websites ranking above higher Pr website.

Basically I see the Page Rank as working opposite way. The higher the PR of a site the more useless it is. I have seen tons of sites which are just useless to say the least and some really good websites with lots of info are ranked below par. I am yet to realize the secret but I totally agree about the uselessness of the PR

The calculation is complicated and if you do a Google search you can find sites that explain it. But PageRank is one of 200 factors Google considers and not worth worrying about.
Hi Nick,
You right in the literal sense that page rank dose not matter. But if this is not well known by many than it can be thought of as being a good thing to have a higher page rank so as people will be drawn to higher page rank even if it’s not really revaluate. So as to make it better to have a higher page rank.We are back were we started.

Interesting way of thinking of PR, Zora.
i still think PageRank matters. As it is a part of Google Algorithm. And low PageRank means you are lacking somewhere in optimizing with Google. But we should not much concerned with it as it is not in our control.

Thank you for explaining Nick. I already knew that, but even if it doesn’t matter for us, it matters for the people who want to place ads on our websites. I’m speaking from the experience, the higher the page rank, the higher the price.

For initial prices, yes. But after a while if you don’t send them quality traffic they will re-negotiate lower prices.
I thought page rank plays some important role in all sites…but your post clearly shows what is more important than a page rank..thanks for sharing a useful information….
I can’t believe 58% of the guys (including me:) still think PageRank matters after watching this video. I think PR still matters as the most important factor of those 200+ metrics but as you said, it’s not something to be obsessed.

Hi Nick
I am so glad I found this site. I’m pretty new to the whole website traffic game and I have been wasting a lot of time with bad links and worrying about page rank all the time. Your information and all the comments have really helped me sort some things out. I’m going to apply all that I have learned from this site and hopefully drive a lot of traffic to my sites. And I won’t worry about page rank and such.
Thanks!
