Web traffic—it’s by far the most crucial element you need in order to obtain a solid readership and make sales. And how do you get a steady flow of Web traffic? By interweaving SEO techniques in your Web content to ensure top rankings on search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo.
While you may take the initiative to learn the tricks of the trade of search engine optimization on your own, there may come a time where you need a little bit of extra help in order to get your blog/ Website really on the map and make the revenue you deserve. We’re talking about hiring an SEO copywriter.
What’s an SEO copywriter?
An SEO copywriter is a professionally trained individual in all things, well, SEO—they do thorough market research in order to determine the best key words to use in all of your content, including articles, titles, and metadata descriptions; they are trained to produce flawless content (no grammatical errors that can turn off readers); and they can provide you with logistics so you know where your weak areas are—for example which articles are more commonly read.
Of course, hiring an SEO copywriter isn’t necessary at all times—they can get pretty pricey. But there are times where a freelance SEO copywriter would be useful.
So When Should you use an SEO Copywriter?
If You’re Too Close to the Subject.
If you are a small business owner for example, it may seem natural to write about your own business—after all, who can talk about it better than you, the actual owner? But sometimes owners are so attached to their “pride and joy” that they end up including a lot of unnecessary elements such as family history and background into their content and come off as too biased.
As harsh as it may sound, consumers (especially on the Web) have short attention spans and are rarely interested in reading info that you may find charming—they want to know how your product or service is going to improve their lives and benefit them almost immediately.
SEO copywriters know how to write in a direct, persuasive and concise manner so that consumers are given the info they need right away.
If You’re In a Creative Funk.
In order to really stand out in the rankings and compete with other websites and blogs you have to be strong competitor—this means posting unique content. If you are having a rough time coming up with topics or incorporating fresh keywords you may consider hiring a freelance SEO copywriter.
An SEO copywriter knows how crucial non-duplicate content is and they can come to the rescue when your creativity juices come to a halt.
If You’re Writing a High-Priority Article/Blogpost.
All your posts are important yes, but there will come a time when you plan on writing the article —meaning, you put all you have into it and you want it to get the attention it deserves, perhaps even go into syndication.
An SEO copywriter can’t guarantee that your article will reach profound heights, but they can surely help you try. They can edit it and make sure that you have the necessary keywords, phrases, titles and internal links in order to appear high in search rankings.
If You’re Pressed for Time.
Last but not least, if for some reason you do not have time to tend to your website or blog, meaning it is impossible for you to write at least three 500 articles a week or formulate an extensive press release every 90 days, an SEO copywriter whose expertise rely on your topic/subject can serve as a temporary solution until you find some time to write again.
So How Much do their Services Cost?
While there are tons of SEO copywriting services on the Web, you want to make sure that you hire someone who is a quality writer. That said, quality generally doesn’t come cheap.
While some on average charge about $100 a hour, you can find some cheaper services, just make sure that you do extensive research and ask these questions before hiring anyone:
- How long have you been in business?
- How many success stories have you had, and can you show proof? Testimonials? References?
- What are your credentials? College education?
- You do know the difference between Web copywriting and SEO copywriting, correct?
- What sort of plans to you have for my site/content?
- What are my weak areas and how do you plan on improving them?
- Are you a fluent-English writer?
- Do you provide topic research?
- What are your SEO technique specialties?

Great post. I have used an SEO copywriter before but the reason I use them is to give some of my niche websites a different feel. Something that I notice is that when a website has articles by the same person, then they become too much alike. Mixing things up is a great way to get more traffic and get readers to click back and forth from other articles.

I’ve thought about hiring a SEO copywriter for a couple of new sites that I have been meaning to get off the ground. I am quite pressed for time working at a part-time job on top of everything so that is one reason to hire one and besides, I’d like to infuse a different flavor in my content on those sites too to see how that goes.

SEO copywriter is the one who can write a decent post or article to your new site, especially if it is not a blog. Of course, some news you’ll be able to write by yourself later, but the text in the main page should be writtem correctly from the point of view of the language (stylistics and grammar). Are you sure that you know it very well? No? So, let a professional do his job.
Great guest post Mariana and some great incites. I think hiring a copywriter can in fact help SEO, that is of course if you hire one that can do a good job. I agree also that there is a big difference between web copy writing and SEO copywriting.

Good post, Mariana. Your last point about doing research is crucial. By going through the trouble of asking those questions, you can make sure that you have a top-notch person to help you. These days many, many folks claim to be SEO copywriters, without much relevant experience.

An SEO copywriter is an excellent proposal to take in sometimes, new ideas, new thoughts, new perspectives and angles. The blog gets some new blood and maybe you can learn more about SEO and draw more traffic to your blog in the future.
Since I’m a writer, I don’t outsource writing. But if you outsource by hiring an SEO copywriter, remember Mariana’s advice: Can they actually prove successful experience in SEO, meaning, how many top sites in search results have they authored? And do they speak and write perfectly or as close to perfect as possible? Some people think they’re getting a bargain hiring people from far away through elance, those people are often getting back humorous content with numerous errors in spelling and grammar.
