Today I want to talk about and easy way to get back links to your site.
The method it involves submitting your RSS feeds to different directories.
For those of you who were familiar with this technique you can skip the first section.
Basics of RSS feed submission
If you have a website or a blog chances are you have an RSS feed created it for you automatically.
I know this is done automatically for Word press and blogger and several other blogging platforms.
What you want to do is take your link to your RSS feed and submit it to different RSS feed aggregators.
This is a great way for you to get links to your site. It’s quick and easy.
RSS directories that you can submit to
Instead of listing all of the RSS directories here I am just going to link to 3 that have great lists already.

The trouble with feed burner
If you use feed burner to manage your RSS feeds do not submit the link to your RSS feed burner account.
Instead submit the link to the RSS feed created by your word processor or blogger account.
The reason for this is that he feed burner RSS feed does not link directly to your site but rather goes through an intermediary. So when you submit your feed burner RSS link to different places the search engine crawlers will find this link and pass credit to the intermediary URL and not your sites URL.
For example let’s take a look at the feed burner RSS feed for Nick’s traffic tricks:
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/NicksTrafficTricks
If you take a look at that and look at the actual URL that feed burner is linking to you will see that it’s something like:
http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/NicksTrafficTricks/~3/ejFs7FkDOVQ/
So instead when I submit my RSS feed to different places I will use the following:
http://nickstraffictricks.com/feed/
This RSS feed links directly to my website and it’s the ones that I will submit to various RSS directories.
If you’re using WordPress you can usually find this URL by adding feed to the end of your domain.
For example:
http://nickstraffictricks.com/feed/

Hey Nick,
Thanks alot for the tip re feedburner. I was unaware that my site goes through an intermediary. I’ll be sure to update my RSS feeds in the future.
Keep up the good work.
regards
Guy
Thanks Guy!
I think most people who do not know any better probably submit their feedburner URL. I’m glad you mentioned using the direct feed and also explaining why that is the best option.
Thanks Nick

Hey Nick,
I’ve read several other resources on this issue but to be honest they all added to information overload. We aren’t all tech people, are we? Thanks again.
Happy new year! Thanks to you, I found what I did wrong. Damn crawlers!
Nicole
Glad to help Nicole.
Hi Nick – I am trying to work out how to submit RSS feed at the moment, how do I find the URL of my website (which is a word press blog) to submit to the feed burners? I tried just typing feed at the end of the URL, but it just me to a 404 error page. Any ideas?
What’s your site?
I think I’m going to email you.
