1. Correct AdSense Placement

The best place to put your AdSense blocks is high on the page and towards the left. You want it to be the first thing people see.

Another good place to put your advertisement is at the end of a blog post. That way when someone finishes reading and wonders what to do next they will see an advertisement and are more inclined to click on it.

You can learn more about optimal placement from Google:
https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=17954

2. Correct AdSense Color Choice

Consider choosing colors that match your website color scheme and would make your ads blend in. Camouflaging your ads makes them more likely to be clicked.

3. No Border Around AdSense Block

Technically you can’t really remove the border but instead you make the border color the same as your background color. This makes it look less like an ad and may result in more clicks.

4. Best AdSense Blog Size

Consider choosing larger and wider block sizes for your AdSense advertisements. My best results have come from the ‘large rectangle’ block. One of the reasons is that they are wider and it’s easier for a person to read than a narrow ad.

Be sure to test different sizes and see what works for you.

5. AdSense Showing Relevant Ads

It’s good to double check and make sure that AdSense is in fact displaying relevant ads. If for some reason it’s not then the number of clicks you receive will be very small.

6. AdSense Section Targeting

Section targeting allows you to suggest sections of your text and HTML content that you’d like AdSense to emphasize or downplay when matching ads to your site’s content. By providing AdSense with your suggestions, you can assist it in improving your ad targeting. I recommend that only those familiar with HTML attempt to implement section targeting.

To implement section targeting, you’ll need to add a set of special HTML comment tags to your code. These tags will mark the beginning and end of whichever section(s) you’d like to emphasize or de-emphasize for ad targeting.

The HTML tags to emphasize a page section take the following format:

<!-- google_ad_section_start -->
<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

To learn more about section targeting go to:
https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=23168

7. Do Not Click Your AdSense Ads

The last thing I want to mention is that you should never click on the AdSense ads on your website. Google tracks the IP address of every click and they are very quick to ban anyone who even looks like they might be trying to make a little extra money by clicking the ads.

I heard a story of a guy who had his account banned because some of his family members had thought he could make a little extra money if family members clicked on his ads.

So don’t click on your own ads and don’t ask anyone else to do either. It’s simply not worth it.

One of the best ways website owners make a load is by doing what’s is called AdSense Arbitrage.

AdSense Arbitrage sounds complicated but the concept is quite simple.

You have a website with AdSense ads on it and you pay to send traffic to the site. If you earn more from AdSense clicks than you pay for a traffic, you’re doing AdSense Arbitrage.

Many gurus out there say this cannot be done successfully. That’s just not true. I have been doing it successfully for over a year.

But you should know it takes a fair amount of research on you part. There is no 5 step recipe that takes 5 minutes.

Without correct placement of you AdSense ads you will never earn anything.

There a couple schools of thought when it comes to the placement of your ads on your pages.

The first is to make your ads stand out. Use bright colors or colors that clash with the page their on. Anything to distract the visitor and divert their attention to the ad.

Most visitors find such ads as obnoxious and quickly learn to ignore the ads.

Some visitors will leave your site prematurely if you have obnoxious ads.

The other ad placement strategy is to blend the ads with your content. The goal here is to actually make the ads seem part of the page’s content.

If a visitor sees the ad and thinks it’s part of the content they won’t ignore it. If it seems like something of interest they will click on it.

Now Google allows you to have a variety of ad shapes and sizes on your site. I recommend using the ad that is the widest: 336 pixels by 280 pixels.

The reason for this is simple: Most people read from left to right. Choosing the widest ad makes it easier for people to read and makes it blend into your content better.

The best place to put your ads are at the top of your main content. When someone visits your page this is the first place their eyes go.

Another good place to put an ad is at the bottom of your main content. When a visitor reaches the end of the main content they invariably ask “Where do I go now?” You should answer that question with an relevant ad.

Google has provided an AdSense Heat Map that shows the best locations to put your ads.

I successfully implemented these strategies on my famous quotations site:
MyFamousQuotes.com

Making my content and ad colors match and placing them in the right location has boosted my AdSense earnings by a factor of 10.

When I first created the site I put ads to the right of my content (160×600 skyscraper) and it would get just a few clicks. I thought this was the best strategy because that was how I saw others doing it.

My CTR (click through rate) was poor and my earnings were dismal.

Just for fun I tried putting an ad at the bottom of my content and with color matching my content. I also had switched to the wider ad size (336 pixels by 280 pixels).

The result: My CTR and and revenue went up by 4 times.

I was shocked the first day I saw this. I didn’t believe ads at the bottom of my page, which no one ever saw without scrolling would have a higher CTR. It had to be a fluke.

After a week the bottom ad was still 4 times as profitable and I was a believer.

Next I tried putting an ad at the top of my content and my earnings more than doubled.

I asked a friend to go to my site and tell me what he thought of how I had placed my ads. After looking at my site for a few seconds he said, “What ads? I don’t see any.”

The ads on my site blend in with my content and that has made a tremendous difference.

When it comes to AdSense, there is a lot of good advice out there. Just keep in mind that you can read all the good advice out there but there is simply no substitute for testing different strategies on your sites.

Section targeting allows you to suggest sections of your text and HTML content that you’d like Google AdSense to emphasize or downplay when matching ads to your site’s content.

By providing Google AdSense with your suggestions, you can assist them in improving your ad targeting.

I recommend that only those familiar with HTML implement section targeting.

To define the content you want Google to pay special attention to, simply surround your content with the following tags.

<!– google_ad_section_start –>
My content that I want Google to pay special attention to when matching ads to my site’s content
<!– google_ad_section_end –>

You can also designate sections you’d like to have ignored

<!– google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) –>
My content that I want Google to ignore to when matching ads to my site’s content
<!– google_ad_section_end –>

It’s important to know that these are suggestions. It does not guarantee that Google will only consider what in between the tags.

If Google has already crawled your page before you added the tags it may be a couple weeks before Google comes back and crawls your site with the added tags. Consequently, you may not see changes for awhile.

You can use section targeting to make suggestions about as many sections of a page as you like. However, please be aware that we can’t guarantee results, and that it may take up to 2 weeks before our crawlers take into account any changes you’ve made to your site.

Google also adds:
“In order to properly implement this feature, you’ll need to include a significant amount of content within the section targeting tags. Including insufficient content may result in less relevant ads or PSAs. In addition, please keep in mind that this feature should only be used to emphasize significant sections of your site’s relevant content. It is against our program policies to manipulate the ad targeting to result in ads that are not relevant to the content of your pages.”

If you have a website one of the best ways to make money with your website is with Google AdSense.

Google AdSense is a dynamic advertisement system. All you do is put a tiny piece of JavaScript code on your webpage. Once the code is on the page Google will come crawl that page and determine what the page is about.

Once Google knows what the page is about they will display relevant ads. If your webpage is about Poodle Manicures then Google will show ads about things related to that (e.g. poodle or pet related ads).

If you then have a webpage on Golf Swings, you put the little snippet of JavaScript on your page. Google comes and crawls your page and displays ads related to golf.

Google gives you the snippet of code to put on your pages. Piece of cake.

It’s easy to see why so many website owners choose AdSense.

When you first look at your page with its newly added AdSense code, it is possible that your page has not been indexed yet. If this is the case you will see PSA (Public Service Announcement) Ads. You page will usually be crawled by Google within a few hours of this.

One thing you should know is Google is a little picky about your website’s content.

Among the things Google prohibits are: adult content, content about illegal activities, content on ammunition & firearms.

Google also doesn’t tolerate people clicking on their own ads or giving visitors incentive to click on your ads. This is called click fraud and they have a 0 tolerance policy.

Google prohibits disclosing “click-through rates or other statistics relating to Site performance in the Program provided to You by Google… However, You may accurately disclose the amount of Google’s gross payments to You pursuant to the Program.”

What it involves is you having a website, registering with Google’s AdSense program, getting the AdSense code from Google and pasting it into your website. Google lets you choose special features such as color and size so that the AdSense ad fits right in with your website look.

The first stumbling block might me knowing enough about web design to include the AdSense ad but usually a person knows enough about web design and have done their own website or they have hired someone to do it for them. If you know enough to build your own website, then AdSense will not be a challenge. If you don’t know enough you have hired someone to build a web site then you just give the code to the person who build it for you and tell him or her where you want it placed.

When visitors visit your website they see the Google Ads the AdSense code displays. These ads relate to the topic of your web page. It’s clever but the code “reads” your page, sees what the main topic is and pulls in ads related to that topic. In other words, the ads sense the topic of the page. Hence the name, AdSense. You get paid when someone clicks on one of your AdSense ads.

Here is something you need to know. You cannot click on your own ads. Oh, if you click on one or two it might not hurt, but if you click on your own AdSense ads, it looks like you are trying to cheat the system and you can easily be banned from AdSense. Google is very careful about protecting its advertisers and they don’t want people wasting advertisers’ money with fake clicks.

This sounds very easy. Well, there is one small problem and that is – to get clicks on your AdSense ads, you need traffic to your website. The more page impressions you have, the more chance you have of people clicking on your ads. AdSense looks at what it calls Click Through Rate (CTR). CTR is the number of clicks an ad gets divided by the total number of ad unit impressions the ad got. If you have 10 ad impressions, that means the ad showed up 10 times to viewers which means that these 10 people visited your site. If one person clicked on an AdSense ad, then your CTR is 1/10 or 10%. Also you get paid for one click – which could mean four cents or four dollars depending on the cost of the ad to the advertiser.

The pressure is on you to carry out two simple steps – step one is to pull people to your website and step two is to have content on your website that will make people want to stay and look around. If they do not look around, they will not see your AdSense ads and if they do not see them, they will not click on them and you will make no money from AdSense.

While this is a basic introduction to AdSense, the information here really is all you need to succeed with AdSense. Build your site, add Google Ads, draw traffic, and cash your Google AdSense check.
