This is part of my 30 Days To More Traffic Series

The importance of targeted traffic

We all know that traffic is important in the lifeblood of any website. But not all traffic is created equal.

Many people that may come to your site are just surfers browsing the Internet with no apparent aim or purpose. Many are just killing time.

What you want is traffic that is targeted and visitors that are ready to take action.

If your website is selling a product or has some sort of advertisement you want people who were ready to purchase.

If your website has Google AdSense on it and you want visitors who are ready to click on the ads.

How to attract motivated people

One of the best ways to find people that are really motivated to take some sort of action is to use trigger keywords in your post and especially in your title.

Trigger keywords are usually action words or words that represent some sort of action. Using these words can attract motivated people.

These people are not surfing the Internet aimlessly but rather have a specific purpose and a specific need.

It’s your job to attract these people using trigger keywords and give them what they want.

Trigger keyword examples

buy
sell
learn
remedy
cheap
low
make
discount
find
stop
quit
fast
care
tips
get rid
how to

Anyone using one of these key words in a search is a person that is usually motivated and ready to take action.

If someone uses the word buy or cheap or discount in a search on Google then you know that person is most likely looking to purchase something. It is very likely this person is ready to spend some money.

If a person uses a word like remedy or stop or quit or care or get rid of any search on google then you know that person has some sort of problem or ailment that they are looking to take care of. This person has this a specific need.

These are the kinds of visitors you want your website. These people are motivated and willing to take action.

So when you’re writing content for your blog or website keep this in mind.

But how do I get these people to my site?

One of the best ways to get these people to your site is to rank for the search terms they are looking for.

If these people use trigger words in their searches then make sure you use them in your titles and in your content.

If you do this correctly you can rank for these search terms and get traffic from very motivated people.

The power of how to

One of my favorite trigger key words is “how to”.

People are always searching for “how to (fill in the blank)” and so I try to use this a lot in my blog posts.

In fact did you notice the title of this particular post? It begins with how to…

How to use the right trigger words for targeted traffic

What do you think?

I would love to hear your thoughts so please leave a comment below.

Most people want to get traffic to their website so they can make money. And a common way to make money is by selling a product.

One problem people have is protecting their digital products from being stolen by online thieves.

When I first started selling my videos online I had a simple URL that I would e-mail to a customer after they paid. The URL looked something like:

http://nickstraffictricks.com/download_stuff/….

And anyone who knew the URL could download my products.

People Steal

Unfortunately some paying customers decided to distribute the URL to their friends and also post it on online forums. My download page was not protected.

Since then I’ve tried several different things and all of them have had problems. Either they weren’t secure enough or they were too secure and people have problems downloading what they purchased.

The last thing you want is to have a paying customer e-mail you and ask where there product is. It’s embarrassing and it’s happened to me several times.

I found DLGuard

I’ve posted several questions asking how to deal with this on the warrior forum and there were many recommendations for DLGuard.

So I finally decided to stop messing around with solutions that didn’t work and wasted my time. I bought DLGuard a few months ago and it works great!

I started using it to manage and protect one of my products just to make sure it worked and I now use it to protect everything I sell.

Price changes for my videos

This morning I changed the price of a couple products that I sell. In the past I was reluctant to make any price changes because it was a pain.

Before DLGuard I would have to login to PayPal and create a new “Buy Now” button and re-enter all of my product’s information (i.e. product name, shipping price, tax info, URL for the actual download, etc.) just so I could change a price.

When the “Buy Now” button was created PayPalwould give me a new URL to send customers to when they purchased. I had to take this URL and update my website with it. This way when people clicked on the “Buy” button they would be taken to the new URL with the new price.

DLGuard made it easy

Using DLGuard to change the price was easy. I simply logged in to my account, selected the product, and updated the price.

I did still have to go change the price of my website but that wasn’t very difficult.

The whole process took just a minute or two.

Other benefits of DLGuard

Some the other benefits of DLGuard are:

Secure single product sales

Built-in shopping cart

Create Membership sites

Expiring download links

Limit download attempts

Offer promotional coupons

Calculates sales conversion rates automatically

Template based for easy customisation

Automatic mailing list sign-up

Integrated with the major payment systems

But DLGuard isn’t for everyone

The biggest drawback to DLGuard is its price. Right now the price is $147 and that is too much money for a lot of people just starting out.

If you are just beginning your online journey and are trying to sell products it might be wise to first sell $100 worth of your products before you invest money in a tool like this.

However if you have some money to invest in your online business I highly recommend DLGuard.

Hey everyone this is Nicholas Stewart and I just wanted to say thanks and give everyone a list of about 30 keywords that you can use right now to build a profitable website.

All 30 of these keywords have a reasonable number of monthly searches on Google and don’t have an overwhelming amount of competition.

Download the keywords

I’ve done the keyword research for these and you can download it here:
http://www.nickstraffictricks.com/downloads/_free_keywords.zip

The columns explained

For those of you who are not familiar with the different terms and ratios in keyword research I’m going to give a quick explanation of what each column means.

Column 1: the keyword

Column 2: the approximate number of monthly searches for this keyword on Google

Column 3: this is the broad competition, so if I search for this keyword phrase without quotes or anything else this is the number of sites that are competing.

Column 4: this is the phrase competition, so if I search for my keyword phrase with quotes around it this is the number of sites competing. If my keyword phrase is poodle manicures and I searched on Google for “poodle manicures” (with the quote marks) then I would see the number of sites competing for this exact phrase.

Column 5: this is the number of sites that have all of my keywords in their title. You can perform the search on Google by doing:
allintitle: poodle manicures

Column 6: this is the number of sites that have all of the keywords in their URL.

Column 7: this column is the Broad KEI. This number is computed by taking the monthly search number, multiplying that by itself, and then dividing by the broad competition (column 3). The lower this number the better.

Column 8: this column is the Phrase KEI. This is almost exactly the same as column 7. The only difference is he uses the phrase competition. The lower this number the better.

Columns 9 and 10: these are the same as the two previous columns except they used the title and URL numbers.

Column 11: this column is a measure of competition for your keywords in webpages URLs and titles. The smaller this number in the better.
For those of you who are more mathematically inclined and want to know how I computed this number I will tell you. I took the number of sites competing for keywords in title and multiplied it by the number of sites that are competing for your keyword in their URL. I then took the product of this number and computed a base 10 logarithm.

What do you think?

I hope you find this useful.

I am curious though: is this too much information? Should I omit some of the columns?

Personally I am kind of a numbers person and generally welcome more data but I know this is not the case for everyone.

Today I want to talk about an awesome tool I found for finding profitable niches.

And it’s totally free!

How it works

You can access this tool by going to:
http://www.google.com/sktool/#keywords

Here is a screenshot of what that page looks like:

On the left-hand side you’ll see a series of top level categories, like apparel, beauty and personal care, computers, etc.

Clicking on one of these categories will bring up some keyword information that will help you to find profitable niche.

For example if I click on the apparel category I see the following:

In the first column we have are keyword and they are sorted with the most searched for keywords on top.

In the second column Google gives us an estimate for the number of monthly searches. This is a count of how many people are searching for this particular keyword each month.

In the third column gives us a rough idea about the competition. To be honest I don’t find this terribly useful and usually ignore this column for the most part.

The fourth column is the suggested bid amount. This one is very useful. If you are running Google AdSense on your site you want this number to be high because it results in more profitable clicks from your visitors. If you’re doing pay per click advertising and paying for clicks and a higher number means there’s more competition.

Use it to find profitable niches

So what you want to do here is find keywords that have a decent amount of searches, say 5,000 to 10,000 at the very least, and you want to find keywords that have very little competition.

Spend some time drilling down into the categories and subcategories on the left side of your screen.

Once you have found what looks like a good keyword, then click on it (the keyword in the keyword column should be a link) and that will bring up a Google search for that keyword.

On the page that comes up you will see something like Results 1 – 10 of about 25,500,000

Example search for baby names:

So we see that there are 25,500,000 pages competing for baby names.

This number is high and indicates a lot of competition. Too much competition for me.

You want to find keywords with a competition of 500,000 or less.

Personal Example

A couple days ago I spent some time and drilled down into the category:
Beauty & Personal Care >> Face Care >> Acne

And I found the following keyword:
home remedies for acne

There are 10,000 searches for home remedies for acne.

And there are only 404,000 sites competing for home remedies for acne.

Searching for “home remedies for acne” (with the quotes) I see that there only 146,000 sites competing for that exact phrase.

Next I did a search for sites with the words home remedies for acne in their title:
allintitle:home remedies for acne

Only 869 pages have this keyword in their title.

Then I did a search for sites with the words home remedies for acne in their url:
allinurl:home remedies for acne

Only 538 pages have this keyword in their url.

This seems like it may be a really good keyword with low competition.

So I bought the domain: http://homeremediesforacne1.com

This domain should be getting decent traffic soon.

Conclusion

Spend an hour and search for some new niches.

It may take you some time to find these keyword but that time is an investment and well worth it.

What do you think?

Leave a comment below and let me know what you think.

There is a wealth of ideas for possible niches in the Yahoo! Directory http://dir.yahoo.com

If you are looking for non Internet Marketing niches and business ideas then this is the place.

On the left there are a bunch of high level categories. Click on one of them.

Example

Clicking on “Health” I see the following:

Clicking on any the topics in Health you may find a wealth of sub niches.

And many of these do not have a ton of competition making it easier for you to get your foot in the door and get your site ranked in the search engines.

Making Money From Your Newly Found Niche

If you’re wondering how to make money from a new niche just go to ClickBank’s Marketplace http://www.clickbank.com/marketplace.htm and search for a product that matches your niche.

Take Action

If you’re trying to find a good niche but are struggling to generate ideas then stop reading this and head over to Yahoo! Directory http://dir.yahoo.com and start digging for ideas.
